Okay, lets assume he doesn't make it. You have Horvat, Miller, Ferland, Boeser all making the same salary they are today in 2021/2022. Petey gets a raise and you replace Pearson with a player with a comparable cap hit, likely between 3.5-5 mil.

Sutter is off the books. You have Gaudette on whatever his next deal will be, likely not that high.

I just don't see the cap numbers being a problem. If you look across the board, every time there is a young talented player coming up for a new contract, someone else with a sizable chunk of cash is coming off the books.

Regardless, I don't think the difference between the 900k ELC and the 3.75mil Pearson makes really has an impact. If you ignore the name my argument still stands.

Well Flyers and Leafs are figuring it out on the fly also. Right now there are 5 teams still over the cap and the deadline just passed an hour ago 5 PM EST. VGK Buff Pitts and Wash. Earlier today there was 5 more teams.

This is not unique for the Canucks only.
