There's a lot you don't understand so that's not saying much.

I dont believe this is a real thing

We did it to Moulson and Skinner signed an enormous extension here

We could do it again

- jcragcrumple

But they didn't in the way people are asking for them to do it to the guys here now. it wasn't to start the season before, and they loaned him to a team that put him in a good situation. Two totally different scenarios.

Could they maybe come up with a solution like that again, sure. But it's probably not going to be right at the start of the season right now.

Also, Skinner isn't quite the same because he played here for a year before he was going to hit FA. We were able to offer him an extra year on his contract which in order for him to get the same amount of money elsewhere would have been difficult.

I agree it means something if you JUST signed the player, but most players see these guys cant play and are not worth that salary / cap hit, so can't be mad at the team. I mean, if anything, it shows the team wants to win that bad, they want to ice the best team. Also, the player still gets full $, so can't be mad at that.

If a player I am about to sign is worried about being sent to the AHL due to performance, I don't want to sign said player anyway.

If you waive a player making over $1m this year to the AHL, the NHL team saves a cap hit of ~$900k (so if player A makes $4m, sending to AHL leaves a $3.1m cap hit), then replace said player will a rookie contract (or similar) player and the cap hit is the same, but you get a better player. Right?
- Lilroot9

pretty close, but it's $1,075,000

I get the logic. But please name me a player that we have in Rochester that you think is really going to make the kind if impact that you seem to think would honestly really change the roster this season?

I'll hang up and listen....

If i may make a suggestion, when discussing mojo at center, I believe he should be referred to as "Ott"

Ok, Hutton and Johansson.

Idk, I dont think that's an actual consideration. Frankly, I think it would show a refreshing amount of accountability.

Regardless, it was always a pipe dream anyway. Guy wore a letter last year. Hell, he still might, I have no idea.

Maybe next year they'll pull the trigger on it

save cap space, spend more actual cash

If scandella plays horribly and the d gets healthy, it's a possibility. It wasn't going to happen today.

Because you're a fan and don't have skin in the game. You can't honestly say how a player would feel because you're not one. Which in turn means that you could be right and I could be wrong.

And also, you glossed right over the part where I said that the way Moulson was handled was different than what everyone around here is saying we should do to Sobotka/Scandella/Okposo/[enter name here].

You save the same by loaning a player to an AHL team or another league as well. Loan him to one of the Pacific Coast AHL teams. Great weather. Get paid the same.

Thompson was here last year and we saw the results.

CJ Smith was sent back early in camp (and didn't get claimed by 30 other teams), so I think that tells you all you need to know about him.

Asplund isn't quite ready yet. Another year in the A will do him some good. He's not going to come in here and make a big impact, so let him hone his game a bit more in the minors.

The rest of the list are all guys other teams didn't think were fit for an NHL roster spot either. So if you think they're going to come in here and make a huge impact and push us to the next level, then I want whatever kind of drugs you're on because they must be pretty damn good.

This isn't a video game. You can't just throw out the guys you don't like and put in new ones and think it's that easy. Because it's not.

We claimed Remi Elie off waivers last year. He made a huge impact let me tell ya....

Yeah, they let moulson pick whatever AHL team he wanted. They could do the same thing or tell him he can stay home and not play if that's preferable. Idk that's a non issue imo. They're getting paid no matter what

And what exactly do you do with Scandella, Okposo, and Sobotka that doesn't set your organization back in other ways?

Anything?

Wake me up when the priority of this team is winning NHL hockey games and not worrying about what our organization might look like

I keep reading that all the advanced stats say that Scandella, Okposo, and Sabotka were top 5 or the entire league. Any upgrade there will help. Will it vault us to the playoffs? Not directly, but this fan base deserves a better product with an increased chance of winning.

This is what I'm saying. They could do the same thing. But they need time to do so. It's not going to happen right now because these teams are trying to figure out their rosters at the moment. You have to wait for things to shake out.

No guarantee that it will happen, I'm just simply pointing out that from a timing standpoint, the things people are asking to be done cannot be done quite yet.

It’s a total non issue. Karl Alzner was waived a year after signing a massive deal.

I’m sure MTL is worried what other UFA’s think of them now

Jason Pominville was waived too.

The fact is we have really no idea who CJ Smith the NHL’er is.

But I know exactly who Sobotka is

So is Burfict's suspension vs. Jonathan Jones' non-suspension for his hit on Allen apples and oranges because Burfict is a multi-time offender?

The only defense I can come up with, and it's admittedly a weak one, is that Botterill really has a design as to who he wants on his AHL team, more than most, from the sounds of it. It's why Moulson was loaned, and not merely waived and sent to Rochester. Also, when you loan a player, he has to clear waivers as well.

There's the Pominvile thing I knew would pop up.

In any event, it's a new coaching staff and clearly they didn't like what they saw.
