How many times do I have to (frank)ing repeat myself fandom does not work like a switch you can’t turn it on and off. You can be a fan and still not like part of the team this team was one of the worst in the entire league last year and had three of the worst players at their position on it. Those players are still here - ImThatGuy
If on the last day of the season last year, I said to the board: "Not only will Sobotka be on the team next year, he will be on line 2," 100% of the board would have exploded in laughter or they would have been indignant

Cmon man. I've given him credit for Hutton, Mojo, Miller, Joker. You exploded on me for suggesting that Sobotka might play on L2, and here we are.
He should have done more to address the forward position. Literally every national analyst has said the same thing. Internally in Buffalo, he's still enjoying his moniker of "not Tim Murray" - jcragcrumple
Agreed. He should have done more to address a spot on line 2.
I'm confident that if Ralph stays w Sobotka on L2, those lines will be shuffled after game 1. Unless they win. As Chris Berman says, "that's why they play the games".
Burying this team before the first game, imo, is crap.

I'm not doing that. We need Mojo to get 50+ points. It's possible, but not with Sobotka.
And if we're trying the "three 3rd lines" approach again, forget it.

While I agree that "on paper", these lines maybe don't make a whole lot of sense, (we can and have slotted the players where WE think they make most sense) there's that thing called (and I bring this up here and there) chemistry.
Maybe the lines work. Look around the league; there are definitely lines that don't make sense that work.
Sobotka was a very effective player not so long ago (career high in pts just two years ago). Maybe spreading it out might work.
If it doesn't, I hope Ralph sees it quickly.
On to another subject, how much are we saving in cap room w these paper transactions today?
But you have an almost guaranteed 15.85M cap coming off. Sheary and Vesey could be re-signed based on this year. Reinhart's probably getting 4M more than he has this year. Montour maybe another 1-2M. Erod, Ullmark, Mittelstadt could be modest raises.
We'll probably need to sign 1-2 F, 1-2D. But our cap space should look a lot better next year.

Is the outgoing crap pile going to be replaced from within, or UFAs?

For sh!ts and giggles:
Dahlin
Miller
Joker
Montour
Pilut?
Borgen?
Risto?
Having those couple guys still on entry level contracts will really help.

This is by far the stupidest thing I have ever read on this blog. Such a crap attitude. - BeadyEyedDouche
I disagree, if you have to vent your spleen about it constantly, maybe it's time to take a step back.
If fans really wanted change they'd stop buying the product. If you eat at a restaurant and it makes you sick you don't go back to the restaurant to eat the next day. If everything is always the same there's no incentive for changes to be made. But if fans stopped watching or showing up, even for $6, because those seats were already purchased at full price, they don't give a (frank), they got theirs, maybe if the revenue stopped coming in and the ratings tanked, the Sabres still have among the best ratings in the league on a percentage basis, then I guarantee you there'd be some strategy meetings with words like "synergistic synergy" being thrown around.
Wow, good job on the work. Pretty realistic in terms of scope. Risto is still there which may be upsetting to some. But if he were gone, Joker slides up and I think it’s looking pretty decent. And perhaps, there’d be a nice looking name in the top 9?
I think this lineup is something of a real possibility. Again, good work.

When a bad team, with a roster that doesn't knock your socks off and will no doubt be a rather high lottery pick has to maneuver around to save cap space. Good teams should be doing that, contenders. - GilPerreault11

Is the goal to ever be really good? Because that team is your idea of a successful setup for next season, the season im supposed to finally be good, and it's a 7-8th seed at best.

I think it’s a realistic representation. Botts is an extremely patient individual. He’s not going to rush anything.
