We really are just talking at each other.
They never would have let Tage beat Okposo for the same job. Never. That's the issue. They competed for the same spot. Tage played better
If they want him to work on his game, then bring in a vet to challenge Okposo who they would have let win - jcragcrumple
Now? Who’s available?
I guess Sprong would’ve been interesting
But Botts obviously knows him,
so i guess he just doesn’t like him
Before camp? With what Cap room? |

(frank), trade Scandella for a 12th round pick in the 2034 draft and play gilmour
It's literally Botterill's job to figure that out, not me. |

It’s not as simply black & white as that
Tage needs more work,
so even though he looked better,
he was sent down bc that’s what they feel is best for him
U just wanna ignore all other factors and boil it down to “who looked better”
There’s more to it than that
And your only evidence your clinging to is
-an extremely small sample size
-of split squad games
*they don’t have the “end all, be all” that you want them too
And they shouldn’t
There’s more to it |

Tage played with zemgus and Larsson. Scored a goal, too.
Okposo is practicing with zemgus and larsson.
Both are RWs. Neither PK. Either can play PP. It's the same job. Try to provide a little offense for the twins |

Girgs with 4 helpers?

We were saying the same thing about Mikael Grigorenko after his third year (I think) in the league. He bulked up, put up a ton of work, still got sent down. Where is he now? Not in this league.
Tage looked "good" this preseason. He didn't look "great", and that's on him. - buffalofan19
Why does Tage have to look "great" to make a bad team? The 4 forwards we keep complaining about were given spots regardless of play. Why?
Put it this way. Tage has more promise than Okposo. Tage has more size and talent than Okposo. Tage is more important to the future of the sabres than Okposo. The organization needs him more than Okposo. So why didn't Okposo have to prove he was better than Tage, why is it the other way around?
If you make the argument this is all about Tage's development and has nothing to do with Okposo, then why didn't CJ Smith get the spot? Sure, he didn't earn it, but Okposo hasn't earned it either. So why default to the vet who has lost and lost for us, rather than the kid who might (small chance, but a chance) be part of our future?
Why throw away Nelson to keep Scandella? Why didn't the sabres say, Scandella you sucked last year, prove you deserve a spot or we will just go all kids. Maybe nelson isn't an NHL D. But he might be, so why not default to the guy with 5% chance of being part of this core rather than the overpaid vet who is part of the old team I need to flush? |

Because none of those moves make a significant impact in the win column. It really is that simple. You are replacing non-difference makers with other non-difference makers. You get zero difference and you screw up your cap. |

Seriously... just stick to you think it’s time for Okposo to get “Moulsoned”
Leave Tage out of it
The Sabres don’t think he’s ready
That part, is quite obviously plain & simple |

then sending them down to continue to develop makes sense |

Is this true?
I thought the amount credited to the CAP for LTIR was maxed out at the same amount they are over only...not the full value of contracts for LTIR play...so only the amount needed to become compliant.
Am I wrong? - IonSabres
There 2 main concepts to LTIR, and I'm guilty of intermingling them. ACSL/Cap Limit and Relief Pool. It's complicated and there's only a couple days a year where people care. Using LTIR almost always lowers your ACSL/Cap Limit and causes you to accrue more $ towards the relief pool.
An example shows it much better. Detroit's ACSL/Cap was about $2m less than the actual salary cap.

In an extremely small sample size of split squad preseason games
Sorry man,
but that just doesn’t hold as much weight as u guys want it too
There’s other factors involved
For example, Tage needs more development
U think he’s ready? Ok
The Sabres don’t
Not much else to say. It’s pretty simple - jdfitz77

Okay, now what are they doing with Pilut? I would love to see their internal cap spreadsheet as to the how and the why. - buffalofan19
They are trying to get as close to the cap as possible, before they LTIR someone. It's just a numbers game.

Goal posts moved again. - matty12345
Not really.
You make moves to improve your team. Replacing Okposo with Thompson or CJ Smith does not improve your team. And it screws with your cap. You're making zero impact on the win column and your putting your team in a worse spot financially. In other words, you get zero benefit from this move. |
