I said last week that Bogo should go on LTIR and got zero replies. 2 hip surgeries in 14 months does not bode well for an NHL dman, especially with Bogo's injury history. I think he's done.
- mhp

The surgery he got this year was on the opposite hip from last year. After dealing with constant hip/groin injuries over the years he finally decided after the first one that having it on the second was something he needed to do. Honestly, should have done it earlier in his career because he'd probably have missed a lot less time than dealing with the same constant injury and trying to just rehab it.

We're about to have over 7M in cap space tomorrow.

That's not even close to accurate.

Paul Hamilton was on WGR this morning and said that Pilut is at the end part of his rehab so sending him down now allows him to work with the staff there. Lukkonen is still in the heavy rehab part of his recovery and they want the top rehab guys here monitoring him during those stages.
- HonkFortheGoose

The Die By The Blade guys are beyond butthurt that Pilut got sent down while a healthy Scandella stayed up on the roster. Like, ignoring that Pilut struggled down the stretch and now he's entitled to a roster spot while being on IR.

For the record, I desperately want Pilut to be the better man and force his way up by November.

Thanks. I guess it's logical. I only saw the announcement and thought it was odd.

I did as well, which is why when it came up on the radio this morning I paid close attention.

I think what someone else said also plays into it though. Pilut was with Rochester last year when he got hurt on an actual contract, not an ATO, so he was able to be reassigned even with the injury.

Had he been injured with us they would have had to keep him, I believe, until he was ready to go.

I didn't think anything of it because of the injury. I think coming off an injury like that, and being waiver exempt, means that he's right where he should be. If he was here I'd think he may try to rush things and come back sooner than he probably should and could possibly set himself back injury wise.

In Rochester, he has a chance to test the shoulder out a bit with less pressure on him. Just my $.02 though.

That's right. If Pilut had to be on the Sabre's roster, there would also be a partial cap hit to deal with.

Malkin is playing with Tanev and Riikola.

Sabres aren't the only team doing neato stuff with their 2nd line.

Their 2nd line center is also, you know, a center. And one of the best

Anyone complaining about Pilut in Roch just doesn't know the rule and/or looking for a reason to complain. Keeping him on their roster is a no-brainer.

OR anyone complaining hasn't watched time after time his inability to clear the front of the net which leads to a goal, time in and time.

Pilut is also not great w/o the puck.'

Pilut will be a better D. But he's also waiver exempt. So here we are.

Most boring prediction of the day:

Olofsson is temporarily assigned to Roch in the next 24 hours to increase our cap space.

I doubt it. That's a pretty minimal figure in the grand scheme of things. He also more than earned his spot here for sure.

They do that, I will probably lose my poop because that would just be totally ridiculous.

I think you're missing my point. It will be a paper transaction. Sending him down, calling up a more expensive player, placing someone on IR, then calling him back up will create cap room.

They don't need to do that though. Last I saw, Montour isn't on IR currently so they could put him on IR without having to "paper shuffle" Olofsson around.

We'll have to see if he continues to be one of the best. Last year wasn't so good for him. He did still score a lot with 21g and 51a, but had a team worse -25 rating. Also, not having Kessel there, will he be getting as many assists? He did have his lowest Sh% in 6 years and only one year removed from scoring 42 goals, so I would expect him to get back to the 30 goal range. Historically he's not very good at face offs and even though he did have respectable numbers last season, he was on the ice for 51 even strength goals for and 64 against. At 33 years old and not hitting 80 regular season games in 10 years, is his decline going to come sooner than expected, or can he bounce back?

IR counts against the cap, so does LTIR for that matter. They need to make some moves to maximize their LTIR relief pool.
