The purpose of LTIR is to give yourself room for a replacement from the minors though. Once that player is healthy (I know, I had a hard time saying that about Bogosian with a straight face), you have to put him somewhere.

I gotcha. I’d take him over a lot of our garbage. It just changes him from a 25g scorer to a 30pt scorer. It’s not a small difference.

Even so, we have around 1.5M in space starting tomorrow with just Huniwck on there. If Botts needs space, he'll make space. That shouldn't even be a thing.

One thing that I do find strange is that Pilut was sent down to Rochester, but Ukko Pekka-Lukkonen stays on the roster, which I assume means he goes on IR.

What's the point of that?

Paul Hamilton was on WGR this morning and said that Pilut is at the end part of his rehab so sending him down now allows him to work with the staff there. Lukkonen is still in the heavy rehab part of his recovery and they want the top rehab guys here monitoring him during those stages.

There are still teams that have to send guys through waivers to get to the roster max. Perhaps they are expecting better players to be sent down that they can claim.

Canes are at 28 players
Avs and Pens at 26
Knights, Jets, Isles and Caps at 25
Preds, Habs, Yotes and Wild at 24

This team seems to care about taking care of your own zone and being away from the puck much more than simply offensive potential.
