Why the focus on the 4th line? I don't get it.

The biggest problem that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US identified last year was a lack of depth scoring from the middle 6.

He improved that.

Yes, there's still a hole at RW2.

PHam said something about Pilut being able to rehab in Rochester. UPL still has a ways to go and would be better suited for rehab in Buffalo.

Ralph Krueger says Brandon Montour (hand) is still a few weeks away from contact and that Zach Bogosian (hip) had a few setbacks during summer and is “a ways away” from joining team

I said last week that Bogo should go on LTIR and got zero replies. 2 hip surgeries in 14 months does not bode well for an NHL dman, especially with Bogo's injury history. I think he's done.

CJ Smith is the one that bothered me the most.

The sabres are probably right. He probably wasn't good enough to make the team. He is probably a career AHL player. This was probably his last shot.

And you know what? It's their fault. Smith is an asset. This organization has done this with Mancari, with Bailey, with so many guys. You need to make a decision on a guy, he is your prospect. Either you trade him while he still has value, or you give him a shot. You can't just let them sit until they become worthless. He could have been traded two years ago for something, or he could be given a shot this year. What they have done is let an asset disappear for nothing.

Mancari and Bailey both had ample opportunity. They did squat with it, which is probably why you can't remember. Bailey ended up getting passed by younger players and was struggling even at the AHL level at times.

Counterpoint - They're not prospects. They're CJ Smiths. Boardline, waiver eligible, young players. You NEED to play them in the NHL or put them back on waivers.

I mean, I am certain us here at hockeybuzz are smarter than the professional talent evaluators, but there's definitely a reason they all pass.


We need better and more wing prospects. Absolutely. I think we got a couple nice ones during this draft.. of course they'll take years to show.
