This is the try hard league.
- manvanfan

I'm not sure what you're implying here. There's literally no justification for LE making the team. He's getting older and slower, he sucked last year too, he sucked even harder this pre-season.

He has no try and no production. Those 2 things are basically what sports is about.

Maybe he's not but judgement is clouded thanks to how much money he makes.
- manvanfan

did you watch him "play" last season and this pre-season?

Let's clear this up, do you think he deserves to be on this team?

Not sure his contract has as much to do with it any more. He's just an unengaged hockey player who gives the team nothing other than occasionally clearing the puck out of the zone on the PK.

Perhaps some of the resident stats guys could chime in with their take on how Ericksson adds more value to the team than Baertschi?

Nope, they contradicted that by keeping LE up. He got outworked by every other fringe player fighting for a spot. Not just 1 or 2 of them, all of them.

I'm not a huge Sven fan, this is more about LE for me.

- Nucker101

I guess you're right in terms of contradiction - I just meant that Gauds outworked all the fringe guys and deserves to be on the team - then you go down the line and say who outworked who between LE, Motte, Schaller, Goldy, Pearson etc.

We all want LE to get waived but is a pipe dream

Yes, I do think he deserves to be on this team.

Explain how he's so (frank)en bad compared to the rest of the team and somehow he still managed fro his defensive zone to score more than half the forwards on the team?

29 points in 81 games playing 14 minutes a night, including PP time.

That's replacement level production. Markus Granlund can give you that.

Virtanen got out worked by Sven. Why is Virtanen not waived?

More importantly, Goldobin and sven can give you more than that. ANd are younger. And have potential as opposed to regressing.

Alright, I just wanted you to say this

I've explained my part. I think he's slow, I think his point totals are replacement level, a decent amount of fringe NHL'ers given that usage will give you similar numbers and some will even give more energy/physicality, like Markus Granlund, who I disliked.

I think the point is whether LE outworked anyone to earn the spot. JV has upside and potential, lots of risk he gets taken on waivers. Makes plenty of sense to keep him. What does LE have at this point?

I haven't seen anyone get waived that has the potential to score 45 points in a season if healthy. Gaudette hasn't even shown in the regular season he's capable of scoring a half a ppg without being sheltered. During a call up when someone is injured he could do that. Then you can make a decision.
- manvanfan

Lots of potential but still has never achieved it. He could potentially play 82 games too but he's yet to crack 70 in 4 seasons. So speaking of potential why can't Gaudette improve on his rookie season numbers? Talk about contradictions.

I was on team positive this year but don’t tell me you’re not annoyed by LE making the team over Sven.

LE isn’t even that good on that P.K. how often have you said to yourself “nice play Loui” when he’s on the P.K.? I’d rather just roll with Sutter, Beagle, Virtanen, and Pearson on the PK and keep Sven over LE since he’s way better at 5v5 and on the PP.

- Nucker101

A little as Sven looked good in preseason but you and I both know LE wasn't going to Utica. MNGT is just weighing the options they have left. LE can play a healthy 70-80 games and get you 30 points where Baertchi is still a question mark to play a full healthy season ever again. It's not that big a deal really based on what they both bring in terms of points. But #teamwhiner will sure make it a big one lol

Agreed.

If you're prepared to lose a veteran, top-six player to waivers because a young player who doesn't require waivers outplayed him, then shouldn't the same logic also apply to Ericksson?

If he's the least effective forward on the team then he's the one you should part ways with. Period.

- YeOldTimer

I think it's got to be more of a hope that someone will grab him on waivers to clear up some cap flexibility.

No one was going to grab LE and Schaller wouldn't change much in terms of cap space.

I'm not sure I agree with waiving Baertschi as I think he's got the most chance to "break out" on this team but I do think there is a decent chance a team grabs him.

E. Kane’s abuse of an official penalty generally carries an automatic 10 game suspension. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman will have to confirm and officially enforce the suspension. Unlikely to happen before tomorrow.
