Yes and NO
There's no meritocracy in comparing AGs camp to SB - he outplayed/outworked all the other fringe guys without a doubt. But I agree Sven isn't the 15th best Forward of the group. Personally I think Schaller and Motte were the least effective in their roles. At the end of the day I don't think the (potential) loss of Goldy/Sven is gonna be that noticeable. - Brooks_Light
Sven isn't the 15th best forward, he's just the 9th best non PK forward. Team game and bad assest management. |

Agree. Sven isn’t the 15th forward, but that’s also sort of misleading. He’s a top 6/9 kind of player, and they kept some other guys over him because they work better on the 3rd or 4th line, and the PK. |

That’s what I used to argue in here. The guys JB was paying premium prices for back then were other team’s Baertschi’s and Goldobin’s.
Waiver eligible players who were in tough to make their teams. Imagine how happy we’d be to get a 3rd or 4th rounder for these guys instead of waiving them.
I hope Benning realizes the irony here since I’m sure he’s been desperately trying to trade these 2 over the past week. - Nucker101
Sure would be happy, That was a different time though. Other teams make trades for those types but not till they have injuries or find out they need more depth. |

Fine with me. My assumption is that it will be him and Schaller rotating out of the lineup, then once Rousell comes back it’ll be Loui in the press box.

There's not enough short term gain to offset letting either guy go down over LE. This is a bad one, as someone who supports this management I've gotta say I really dislike this move. |

Whoever else then, I don’t care. LE isn’t that great on the PK that we should overlook how terrible he is at 5v5. Might as well keep Goldy and waive Pearson too then since Goldy looks better on the PP than him even though Pearson is the superior 5v5 player. - Nucker101
This is very unrationale. |

Look at the team now compared to then. They were keeping Cledening then. Now they are waiving Baertschi. |

yeah it was bound to happen - I think we were all expecting Schaller or Motte, I don't think I've heard anyone even hypothetically suggest Sven getting waived the past 2 weeks. I doubt he gets claimed but even if he does - how many times have you ever said "man I wish Sven was in the lineup tonight"? Plus, every team has a handful of Svens that are getting waived or have been in the past few days. |

i know your point is that going forward his absence will be less noticeable but there have been a few stretches in the last couple years when injuries hit where i was saying it... him and horvat together were pretty good |

I find it bizarre that AG was kept and Sven let go. They showed some decent chemistry, albeit in a small sample size in meaningless games but still, that’s more than other bottom 6 showed. - Nucker101
I don't at all - it's identical to the Gagner/Motte situation last year. I like that management stuck to their word - you get outworked we find a place for you. If your butt hurts - rub some burts bees on it, clear it up in no time.
And you're right - too small a sample size/meaningless games. |

Nope, they contradicted that by keeping LE up. He got outworked by every other fringe player fighting for a spot. Not just 1 or 2 of them, all of them.
I'm not a huge Sven fan, this is more about LE for me. |

I haven't seen anyone get waived that has the potential to score 45 points in a season if healthy. Gaudette hasn't even shown in the regular season he's capable of scoring a half a ppg without being sheltered. During a call up when someone is injured he could do that. Then you can make a decision. |

I figure its team style and strategy for future trades:
1. they just want a "heavy team" and Sven doesn't support that type of team.
2. Schaller is Bennings guy from Boston, and makes Beagle better
3. They are hoping LE can be trade bait in December if he has a resurgence....which I bet the team has said they want him to have to get out of town after all those swedish news comments.
4. Feel sorry for Sven but maybe he gets claimed. Good pre-season try and get rid of him

Agreed.
If you're prepared to lose a veteran, top-six player to waivers because a young player who doesn't require waivers outplayed him, then shouldn't the same logic also apply to Ericksson?
If he's the least effective forward on the team then he's the one you should part ways with. Period. |

Maybe he's not but judgement is clouded thanks to how much money he makes. |
