Daniel Sprong available too. Man, the Sabres could get like 3 guys and create a whole new 4th line. Man I hope they take a chance on at least one of them (or trade for one of the guys, so that we give back a player, to keep the contract # where it is).

Edit: we do have like 6 open roster spots right now. So we could in theory take 3 guys and still be fine (would have to waive 3, but we can all find those 3 very quickly).

I’m sure botts knows Sprong well from Pitt and could take a flyer on him

This obsession with the 4th line never ceases to amaze me. It's a new coach in a new system. Do I expect the results to be better for some of these guys? No, but I am not going to kill someone for giving them the chance. Besides, for all we know some of these guys are going to be watching the game from the press box.

Personally, I thought the 4th line did pretty much exactly what you needed them to last year. Where the roster was piss poor was lines 2 and 3, and it seems to be the same way this year. We're going to struggle with secondary scoring.

Need the goalies to be better for the duration of the season as well. They started out the season pretty well last year and then when our scoring started to struggle starting in December, so did our goaltending.

The roster is still currently underwhelming in a lot of ways, but it's not as easy for the organization to waive someone like Sobotka and send them to the AHL. You have to also think about how that looks to other guys around the league and what kind of reputation you want your organization to have.

A couple of defensive defensemen on waivers today I would be ok with claiming. Djoos from the Caps and Dahlström from the Blackhawks. Both are Swedish LD that are stay at home kind of guys. Dahlström ($850k for two years) seems to be the better of the two, but Djoos ($1.25m for one year) does have the Stanley Cup experience that a lot of teams like.

For the first five or so games, I'd like to see the following

Olofsson - Eichel - Reinhart
Skinner - Johansson - Vesey
Sheary - Mittlestat - Tage
Girgs - Asplund - Lazar
Larson

Dahlin - Miller
MCCabe - Montour (misses 1st game or so, move Risto up)
Gilmour - Risto (up on 2nd pairing for 1st game or so, replace with Nelson)
Scandella
Nelson

That would mean
Okposo, Sobotka, are waived
Joker is sent down

Did Asplund play center in the preseason?
The only game i saw he played, he was at RW
