I was just telling the wife this. It’s like looking back five years between the two teams. Now it’s the Wings hitting and dumping and chasing with the Leafs just dangling around and playing possession hockey.

Like I said, preseason games kind of don't mean jack poop. Aberg has played in the SHL, AHL and NHL and scored goals in all three leagues. He has the tools to be a serviceable depth player. Not that much different from Johnsson, just older.

Just because somebody plays well in preseason against some poopty competition shouldn't be the sole reason they get a permanent spot on the team.

Timashov could go on waivers and nobody would care. Dime a dozen type of player, not even the best player on the Marlies. His cheap contract makes sense but Engvall isn't that much more expensive.

Aberg turned the puck over at least 5 times right inside the offensive blueline and that is the only time I noticed him. He was not good, who cares about past leagues he played in. If he wants to play in the NHL on the leafs he needs to prove he should be and he didn't. Timashov didn't do anything spectacular but he was steady and showed some good play on the forecheck and along the boards. And is still only what 21? Makes sense to keep the younger player who was better in camp.

If anything Read should be the one getting a spot, he was by far the better player of those three but still needs a contract which is why he probably doesn't play on the Leafs.
