Our recycled bottom-6 with New And Improved Sobotka is almost as exciting as Gath's return

Gilmour has played 33 nhl games and 183 ahl games in his pro career...there's a reason for that
- Michael Pachla

You see , this is the problem exactly. Some guy has played a lot of games in the NHL so they must be good - see Okposo, Scandella, Larsson, Girgs etc. They get a pass because they are "vets". Well, I personally would rather take a flyer on a guy like Gilmour or Lazar in their place because they can both skate and have actually played well in the pre-season (and practice). As per my earlier post, what's the point of actually having a training camp and playing pre-season games if guys like Gilmour and Lazar aren't going to make the team but scrubs like Okposo and Scandella are already penciled in?

It is a fact that the Sabres scrubs from last year completely sucked. Why not replace these scrubs with new scrubs such as Gilmour, Lazar, Thompson if for no other reason than to send a message to the rest of the team that complacency and lousy performance will not be rewarded with a spot on the team? Mind boggling.

Seriously, this.

The alternatives to trying Gilmour, Asplund, Smith etc are bad hockey players we’ve seen for years.

Lazar and Gilmour are upgrades over Sobotka and Scandella at the very least.

If we are going to expose anyone to waivers, let's start with the players WE KNOW shouldn't be in the league....Okposo, Girgensons, Larsson, Sobotka, Scandella.

None of the above would get claimed and would be free to go to Rochester.

Instead, we'll end up waiving Lazar and Gilmour who will get claimed by better teams and become useful depth players for them.

Then, when our start is poor our GM will call up the likes of JS Dea and Brandon Hickey who were cut before Lazar and Gilmour.

I feel sorry for coach Ralph. Botterill is going to get fired and Kreuger will go down with him because that's the way it goes.

- Losman

There will be about 2 waiver claims in the entire NHL this week. Much better players than those 2 will clear. In the extremely unlikely event that we lose someone, I won't lose any sleep over it.

And much worse players on our own team wont be waived. That's the problem

Whatever the final moves end up being, someone is going to say this. Finding a productive 2nd line has much more impact than who the 4th line and extra forward(s) are.

It's always an option. Someone will get waived this week who could help us. Odds are, we're too concerned with our own moves to do it.

Two things about that:

1.) We dont know if Botterill did enough for the second line

So if he didn't:

2.) These guys are going to play 14 minutes a night again and I will rip out my hair and throw things at the television set while Girgensons does falling pirouettes as he attempts a check

Curious to see how Ralph uses lines. Probably not as polarized as Phil, but I still can't dismiss the idea that the roster was so flawed that he didn't have a choice. Almost time to find out.

I really wanted to see Sam try to drive his own line. Still concerned about this middle 6, even if it's better than last year.

From an interview yesterday:

Ralph Krueger today on Sobotka: "He’s a real smart player away from the puck. He understands what we’re trying to do here and has very quickly picked up those habits. We’re excited to see that continue.

He's not going anywhere. Not every player is going to be a prolific goalscorer, as they say the world needs ditch diggers too.

LAINE for RistoLAINEn, Sheary, and two firsts. Seems like we're giving up a lot more letters.

I have been impressed with Gilmour.
He always seems to be in the right position to make the proper play.
