Isn't it closer to 11 than 10 million... Plus it's tied up more money on the short term before the new tv deal kicks in when the cap will presumably rise quite a bit. Point being that it's eating up a larger share of cap space now rather than later when there's more room.

Marner is 10.9 but isn't he worth more than Tkachuk?

Point is on an island ...hard to use any of the TB signings as fair comps.

Pro's and Con's .....Leafs lose a couple Milly in cap space by going 6 yrs vs. 3 but gain control by not having to worry about years 4-6.

If Tkachuk and Laine and Rantanen are "Panarinish" in terms of value in 3 years they could be asking for a lot more then Marner's 10.9.

They could also take a qualifying offer then walk the following year.

That's why I don't drink.

Also, the bigger issue to me is trying to open the car door. Never cool to try to forcefully open someone's car door while they're in it.

Every time I saw him on the ice or hear his name mentioned, I heard a petite giggle off in the back of my mind.

If I'm the agent, I advise him to take the qualifying offer, and then squeeze the 'nads of the GM throughout the entire season. The offers will be franking stooooooopid high.

Yep, or maybe they legit want to play somewhere else and goto free agency. Thats the risk with the bridge deals. You give a lot of power to the player. Just look what happened with Trouba. They had to trade him, and the return was mediocore to boot.

I'm much worse. I'm young but feel old, angry 'cause I'm in a lot of pain because I fell 8 feet off a ladder yesterday, white man that's redish because I got a bad sunburn at work yesterday.

Using this years elite numbers 11.5 in 3 yrs is 13 Milly.

If I'm the agent I'm telling them all that if they continue to be elite their next deal will be at least 8 yrs and 100 Milly.

If I'm 'Peg I'm definitely a little worried about that.

The Tkachuk family doesn't mind playing a little hardball too.

At least I had the good sense to bail on the site last night and not go through 40+ pages in the old thread.

Let me help you out here:

The Nylander contract has nothing to do with the Marner contract. I wish it did, because then Marner would have signed for less. The Nylander contract has a cap hit of less than $7 million, with long term. That's actually a pretty good deal for a guy who in his two full seasons on an ELC, scored over 60 points each year. If you would just put down your bottle of Haterade for a moment, you could see this (but, of course, you would never admit it).

Marner is overpaid. He should have come in at $10 million for that length of contract. It's less than $1 million overpaid, but it's overpaid. And yes, part of it is being in Toronto, where the media pressure is stupid.

- Atomic Wedgie

1. I'm already on record saying that I believe Nylander will live up to the deal. I haven't said anything hateful about it.
2. You agree with my point that Marner is overpaid.

My point is that a short term deal like Tkachook or Point would have benefited the team, so why'd they give in and give up the cap space? They could have used the cap space in the next 3 years.

That's the hilarious/scary thing: you think a guy coming off of his ELC has too much leverage over his team?

Just wait until he comes off his bridge deal. Your team is franked.

I watched my step dad fall off a thirty foot ladder onto grass, cracked his spine in several places but never did much to get it taken care of. Ladders are not my cup of tea.
