Agostino would be a decent 4th line guy, IMO.
All he has to do is beat out the goat - PatC80
I think Spezza's in. So I'm sort of thinking you have Kap-Tavares-Marner, Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander, Mikheyev-Kerfoot-???, Moore-Spezza-??? (where Spezza could be a winger). To me that's two openings until Hyman returns, isn't it?
The experienced combatants are: Shore, Petan, Agostino, Gauthier, Aberg, Read
Guys I'd have written off by now: Gaudet, Wilson, Brooks, Bracco, Engvall, Timashov and Korshkov
If Gauthier / Spezza are 4th line guys propped up by Moore's speed, that basically leaves one spot: the 3rd Line RW or 4th line LW (if Moore is deservedly promoted)?
So far, out of that group, I like Agostino. I wanted to like Shore because he has PK experience, but in 2 games, I haven't been overly impressed. |

I think the Goat is (at least) in dark pencil now.
Basically all these guys (shore/agostino/petan/etc ...) are battling for a 12 game look-see. - The Law

I think that's better for him. But I do think he'll get a few games with the Leafs this season.
Because Rielly and Barrie are both ahead of him for power play ice time, and the power play is where he'd mostly succeed right now.
Since it'd be a 3rd pairing spot available, give some games to Liljegren because he's better defensively. That's how I see it anyways.
Rielly - Ceci
Muzzin - Barrie
Kivihalme- Liljegren
Once Dermott's back, send Liljegren back to the Marlies.
- GreatGigInTheSky
If Sandin is better overall right now (and I think he is), he comes up before Sandin and becomes Babs’ new Morgan Rielly project. Remember Rielly as a 19 year old with sheltered minutes and more time on the PK than the PP.
The hope for cap reasons has to be that both Sandin and Liljegren are on the club by next year. It’s probably too much to bring them both up now, so Sandin this year and they’ll see where Liljegren is by next year.

Yeah, that does make sense..
Have to think it will be about 8 guys playing for at most 2 spots. So far, I've been impressed by Mikheyev and Ceci.. I was also hoping for more from Shore.

I think Mikheyev has Ozhiganov to thank for his success.
Because Ozhiganov was so underwhelming, I wasn't expecting much out of Mikheyev, but he's surpassed that low bar very well!

If Brayden Point signs the 3 yr deal for $5.66M annually, how much did we overpay for Mitch Marner? |

Probably overpaid Matthews and Marner about $2M / season when you consider term, taxes and Toronto |

Think the question should be how underpaid is point.
Both have to be worth 7-8 on a 3 year deal. 6 years including a couple UFA years should be around 9.5-10 |

Matthews contract, I'm ok with.. I wish it was more than 5 years, but it is, what it is.. I think Marner should have gotten less $$ than Kucherov. |

Marner was overpaid by $3-$4 million....
2 years in the league , totally benefitted playing with Tavares , had no business getting almost $11 million this early in his career.....
Dubas got fleeced... only question is how badly...
Pastrnak $6.6 million
Kucherov $9.5 million
thats just a couple....
enough said..... |

Yeah, I'd agree with you on that, too.
I mean. I think both were probably $1m too much.
Like when I think, "Matthews at $10.6 x 5", I think that's a pretty decent deal.
When I think "Marner at 9.9 x 6", I still think that feels a bit high - and it's probably because of the Kucherov deal. |

We overpaid Matthews and Marner a poop ton.
Nylander is the only one who actually makes close to what he should do. |

I just think Marner and Matthews should have been signed to longer terms for the money. Tavares got $11M for 7 years. Fine to pay Matthews more but could have been 7 or 8 years plus C. Doesn't matter anymore if the brains can muddle through until the Cap goes up.
Kuch's contract is understated by lack of state income taxes on 41 games. Tampa has about $8.4M in cap space and that is with Domingue and Condon partially buried in AHL. |
