I think it would be next to impossible to get him through waivers. Former 1st round pick with a minimal cap hit. I can see plenty of teams taking a chance on that. - MBFlyerfan
What team will give him a shot in a top 6 role at this juncture ? |

You have to think MTL would at least give Morin a chance. If we wanted to keep Morin, what’s the option? Trade Hägg and have him as a 7th? |

Edmonton. |

He's had seasons of 36, 44, and 30 goals. I think the odds are more in favor of regression than reaching full potential. Whatever that is. In my opinion this is simply not the kind of player that you give up the assets it will take to acquire him and pay him for. - MJL
What assets will it take to acquire him? No one knows. Crap I bet you wouldn’t include Hägg for him |

If a team claimed him, I think they could just assign him directly to their affiliate. Actually, even if the Flyers really still liked Morin, it still may behoove them to let him go to another team. Unless he plays 70 more NHL games before his contract runs out next year, he becomes a group 6 UFA. |

I guess he could supplant Bouchard if they don’t think he’s NHL ready at the moment. Maybe.
I was thinkin Ottawa, but they seem to like Brannstrom, and he might get the call. |

At this juncture?
Winnipeg
Edmonton
Los Angeles (who I think would be the team who grabs him with Hextall there)
to name a few.
And he doesn't need to be a top 6. He can be a 7.
Either way, at that cap hit he would be a nice, low risk addition. |

He would have to pass through Waivers again before he could be sent down. |

Pretty sure if you claim a player off waivers you can't send them to your affiliate. The whole point is to keep the player in the NHL. |

You also have to assume morin is nhl ready
I just don’t think it is this slam dunk he is claimed. Other 1st rd dman who no one thought would pass waivers have |

The team claiming him would have to keep him on their NHL roster or offer to return the player to the team he was claimed from or put him through waivers again if they want to assign him to the AHL.

I can't find anything specific on cap friendly that addresses it. It just says that a team can claim the rights and that a player doesn't have to go through waivers twice within a 30 day period. I can't find anything about claiming teams. |

Yes at this juncture. Why would a team claim him and not play him? Defeats the purpose imo as many have a Sam morin level player of their own |

I don't think you've looked at Edmonton's D-core. |

I have. Morin doesn’t move the needle one bit
They have their own in house guys. Unless they think he is a significant upgrade don’t see them claiming him |

Yes, you'd have to waive him again to reassign him.
There's no evidence to suggest that Morin's even capable of being a 7th dman yet, so a team would need to be willing to develop him at the NHL level to make the claim. |

I agree and all about timing. Last roster cut best time to sneak someone through waivers |

I think you are overlooking 2 things. The first is how many teams have comparable players who are waiver exempt? Waive the guy who is exempt for a bit more time in the AHL and increase your D depth... The second is injuries. You can never have enough D. |
