What also happens every year is a job won at training camp.Like I said your roster is very close but there are no surprises on it. I expect one surprise but don't know who exactly, - VANTEL
Gaudette is winning a job, which is a surprise in some ways.
The thing is he won't get that job until a spot opens up with an injury.
I can't remember exactly, but i feel like this is how Kesler started out too. |

Kesler had the one full season in Manitoba as a top Center during the lockout |

I know it is pre season but if Gaudette scores another goal or two that would be 4 or 5 and Benning did say he would be willing to move players to fit players in.
If Gaudette does win a job he could actually play on a line with Sutter |

I really disliked Sutter’s 5 on 5 play for the part of last season that he was healthy. If I’m honest, I have to say I’ve been pleasantly surprised by his offensive impact so far in the preseason. AHL-level competition for sure.

I don't think they're going to waive him, at all. He would 100% be claimed. But if it went down for JP, Edmonton would see value for someone who isn't going to be on their team. - NewYorkNuck
The point isn't that Virtanen will be on waivers, it's that teams won't pay much for players teams are trying to move this time of year. |

I understand that, but then why did you bring up him being on waivers...?
No one said that it would have to happen right now, all the teams have rosters to work out, but in the first few months of the year it's possible. |

His value is definitely not 5v5 but still is a solid 3C if scoring isn’t as important. |

Agree this time of year is the least best time to trade. |

But it works both ways. Every team is trying to move player to find room and cap space . Right now could be the time to go after a player like Risto and using Jake. |

True, but it’s hard to do a quantity for quality trade right now with teams making cuts |

Just an example here but Buffalo has zero cap room 23 players and Risto says he wants out of there.
Jake and Stecher would give them about 2 mil in cap room . It does work both ways. |

JP for JV would be an absolute disaster for us.
1st trading an nhl roster player for a player who is having a problem convincing the OILERS he belongs is flat out retarded.
2nd trading a healthy, fast, durable player for a 21 yr old guy who's already had multiple hip surgeries.....thats full out short bus retarded.
Lastly Jake needs time to develop. Expect him to improve every year but blossom around 25. He will be a force. There's also his speed which is a weapon on its own. We are best to keep him unless it's for something very good |

Even if AG wins a job. If they move Sutter and Beagle gets injured who is the next call up? You want to keep your depth. Also if they are trying to get a playoff spot does it make sense moving Sutter? - VANTEL
100% on the $
Needing and Keeping depth and role players seems blindly lost on this board. |

Stetcher and a G (like dipietro )
IF we can fit risto in our budget, dont know his cap hit |

Juolevi being involved seems obvious since the roster would then have Hughes/Risto/Myers as offense-first dmen. |

Stecher - 3.4
Virtanen - 1.25
Ristolainen - 5.4
Canucks would need to find $850K ish to make that fit (doable)
Realize you said “goalie”, but any goalie we have not named Demko or Marky are at AHL salaries |

Would you do Juolevi and Virtanen for Risto?
I feel like Buffalo would still want more.
Buffalo should look to acquire Laine from Wpg.
Risto + mittelstadt ? |
