The time to trade JV would of been this summer, as Vintsy said teams aren't going to pay much for players you are trying to waive.
I would of liked to see them move Virtanen for guys like Kapenen, eakin, Killhorn, or Perrault etc.
His biggest asset is his low salary and perceived upside. Scoring 15 goals last year was great but I'm not convinced that's his floor now.
Obviously taking on other high salaries would of meant needing to shed more salary but I still think the team could move Sutter anytime they want but they still see him as a key part of the team. Baertschi also could likely be moved in a minute for a late pick. - belcherbd

I don't think they're going to waive him, at all. He would 100% be claimed. But if it went down for JP, Edmonton would see value for someone who isn't going to be on their team. |

I'm okay moving on from Jake if he doesn't step it up.
Only a matter of time for Goldy.
Some assets in return would be nice. - VanHockeyGuy
A lil premature imo depends on the return. His size & speed are not found easily. What assets are you thinking of? Thx |

Thanks Carol.
I don't think the team can recoup "assets" for either Virtanen or Goldobin. Other teams GM aren't likely to pull a Benning and give up anything of quality for a player about to hit the waiver wire. - 1970vintage
Jake on waivers hardly.
That’s pulling a Vintsy 😂 |

He is 6'1 There are probably 200 players that size and bigger. If you are talking 226 lbs we all agree he is fat. He does not use his size hardly at all |

I am confident that Jake would have me throwing things at the TV .
The thing about Jake is he did put up 15 goals last year but he seemed to only put an effort into 15 games also . That makes 67 games where he does a whole lot of nothing. - VANTEL
His consistency has been my knock also. With his speed & size he should be more impactful but also team F depth didn’t help him. That said he needs to step up in a big way. |

The throw away JV narrative over not fully meeting Green's summer assignment is over blown. He had a career season, scored 15 goals and has a couple this preseason. He makes $1.25M... a bargain for 15+ goals in the NHL currently and he is still young. Green will deal with it. He's not going to let fans and narrative spinners in the media set the roster.
If there is a trade to be made... it better be for a upgrade and not a long shot or project player. - boonerbuck

True but his speed is better & he hits like a truck if he engages. |

100.
JV is not being waved, or traded imo.
Good value and upside still.
Gaudette has played well and will be a late cut and 1st player called up when an injury occurs.
Ferland-Pettersson-Boesser
JT Miller-Horvat-Baertschi
Pearson-Sutter-Leivo/Virtanen
Eriksson-Beagle-Leivo/Virtanen.
Motte
Graovac and Zack Macewan and Gaudette will start in Utica.
I believe Schaller is the player they are trying to move atm.
Goldy and Motte battle for the 13th spot. |

I agree with most of this but if Gaudette puts up 2 more goals next week it could mean the difference of staying. The exhibition games this week will be closer to NHL line ups

I'm stoked Gaudette is playing so well.
I think the smart play is keep him hungry in Utica playing 1st line minutes.
If injuries occur on other teams when the season kicks off, it might open up an opportunity to move a vet and allow Gaudette to play, or the more likely scenario is one of Van's top 9 will be injured and Gaudette gets his spot back.
Happens every year. |

I agree, let him know he did great, he's first call up, and when he comes up, it will be top 9 / a place for him to succeed.

If it’s 4th line in the NHL then I agree send him down. If they want to create a 3rd scoring line with him then I want him up |

Finding a taker for Sutter would go a long ways for AG to get 3rd line duties. |

More likely Sutter (or someone else) gets injured.
It literally happens every year. |

What also happens every year is a job won at training camp.Like I said your roster is very close but there are no surprises on it. I expect one surprise but don't know who exactly, |

More realistic at the TDL when there’s an arms race and injuries. |

Even if AG wins a job. If they move Sutter and Beagle gets injured who is the next call up? You want to keep your depth. Also if they are trying to get a playoff spot does it make sense moving Sutter? |
