Year, until Dec. but are you confident he would be better than one of the Canucks top 6/9 forwards? Palmu did pretty well in the Fin league... - 1970vintage
You would lose JV to find out? |

Respect for Boeser on the shape he reported in. His conditioning doesnt look like he missed any time at camp. Showed up without his usual chubbiness and his moving very well. He just needs to dial his hands in a bit.
I don't think you are going to see any groin issues etc this season. Aside from normal in game risks, I predict he'll have a healthy season and most likely a career season on top of that. - boonerbuck

I'm not opposed to it, never liked JV @6, but I don't think that's Edmonton's best option/offer. |

Pool Party is just an example. Maybe a young D prospect back or? |

I am confident that Jake would have me throwing things at the TV .
The thing about Jake is he did put up 15 goals last year but he seemed to only put an effort into 15 games also . That makes 67 games where he does a whole lot of nothing.

Potentially I would. Would need to make sure he fits into the team — if I remember he is a power forward type of player? Him and OJ were lighting it up together at the world juniors.
Could turn in to a Max Domi kind of trade. Just want to make sure you're on the Montreal side of that deal.....

I feel like Allen Iverson here - “we’re talking about practice, practice”
Preseason is practice. There are always guys who blow the roof off in preseason and fall off quickly when games get real and more structured.
For me, preseason is not the time to give up on Jake or Goldy. The point about Gaudette is well taken but he should start as 1C in Utica. Jake still has good value in my mind as a third or fourth liner who has the potential to score 15 to 20 goals. |

The mystery is solved after seeing the shape he reported in. He's hiding his AB-Flex. He takes it everywhere apparently.
Also, I love his neck warmer. |

The throw away JV narrative over not fully meeting Green's summer assignment is over blown. He had a career season, scored 15 goals and has a couple this preseason. He makes $1.25M... a bargain for 15+ goals in the NHL currently and he is still young. Green will deal with it. He's not going to let fans and narrative spinners in the media set the roster.
If there is a trade to be made... it better be for a upgrade and not a long shot or project player. |

No one is going gaga over the pre season. We all know what to expect from Goldy and Jake .
I think when Jake came to camp he showed his IDGAF level and what to expect once again for this year.
Some fans are just getting a little tired of it.

I have him penciled in right now as a fourth line winger. There are 5 more cuts at forward at the least. I have liked what I seen from Graovac with the effort and talent. Much as I did with Motte last year. Someone has to go .
I don't see it as a narrative but I see it as a who wins the spot. |

Since the beginning of camp there has been plenty of talk about shipping him off and expecting very little in return. Or cutting him. That seems like emotions rather than logic.
Like every season, there are AHL guys who impress in camp but are not going to force the team to throw away players on a gamble that they can keep it up after preseason.
If they, like many fans want to trade him, now is not the time. They are not forced to get rid of him because some AHL depth is impressing in camp. Play JV and trade him when he pots a few goals later then. He's been dragged through the media and shamed in camp by the coach. Poor time to trade.

agree...but I'm also one of the fans that no longer see an eventual payoff (in Vancouver) and would look at an opportunity to improve by trading him (and Goldy). Don't see why it would need to be "today". |

I have said most of the summer I could see him and someone else like OJ traded for a player like Risto so I know it is not on emotions of the training camp for me.
He is cheap but if he puts up 15 again this year he will want more than 1.5. |

Unless he has a significant jump, he'll probably accept his qualifying offer.
Move him because they want more out of him. Move him because they got more out of him and have to give him a raise. Damned if you do, damned if you don't I guess.

The time to trade JV would of been this summer, as Vintsy said teams aren't going to pay much for players you are trying to waive.
I would of liked to see them move Virtanen for guys like Kapenen, eakin, Killhorn, or Perrault etc.
His biggest asset is his low salary and perceived upside. Scoring 15 goals last year was great but I'm not convinced that's his floor now.
Obviously taking on other high salaries would of meant needing to shed more salary but I still think the team could move Sutter anytime they want but they still see him as a key part of the team. Baertschi also could likely be moved in a minute for a late pick. |
