I think he's giving all three young centers a chance to show what they can do as 2nd line center

Lets also remember the CBA expires right when Point's contract does. Who knows what kind of structure that next contract will have to have. |

I actually thought Staal-Fox could be a pair this season. Staal will allow Fox to take chances and play his offensive game - TPC

I get what you are saying, however if I was going to ride a season, I'd rather have some sort of goaltender. Without Kucherov, that's still a good team even without figuring the obvious bounty they would get in return for him. If they don't have Vasy, they literally have pretty much no one.
What's funny about their capfriendly page is they have a decent amount of buried salary that will come off the books. They might get lucky with some fluke timing of how mismanaged they were the past couple years and somehow be sort of OK. - 2sticks1puck
I think the idea that you *have* to have a high-end goaltender has kind of been dismissed as a necessity. Not to say having one is now a negative, but seeing a team like the Blues go to the Cup riding a largely-unknown goalie to a championship, as well as half of the teams that made the conference finals having underperforming or lower-end goalies tells me that the days of needing an in-his-prime stud goalie are probably somewhat over. |

The line combinations make it look like Howden has won that spot as he's with Kakko and Kravtsov |

Pre-season following a bunch of under-whelming efforts. I would put 0 stock in what these lines mean going forward. Especially pre-puck drop! |

I'm totally with you that you don't have to have a Vezina caliber goalie, but you can't have a sieve either. The Canes may very well have won the East if they just had replacement level goaltending. It would be different if the Lightning had someone who could step in.
I think we can both agree that how much/if any the Isles regress with not having Lehner is going to be a perfect test lab for this. |

Domingue did perform excellent when Vasy was out for an extended period of time. Not saying he should necessarily be relied upon to replicate that, but I think a team with the firepower that TB has should be able to pick up the slack for slightly less skilled goaltending. I think ultimately they'll find a way to get everyone in under the cap without having to move Kucherov or Vasy. Maybe they'll ultimately lose Sergachev, but that's probably better than having to get rid of either of the other two.
I really don't know what they're going to do though. As of now they only have, according to CapGeek, four defensemen under contract. Callahan's LTIR relief should kick in on day 1 of the season, maybe they have a deal in place with Sergachev that they'll sign right on the first day so they're compliant? But Cernak needs a deal too. I'm not really sure how it's going to shake out, but I'm willing to bet they'll be fine. When fans think that a team is completely screwed, they pretty much always manage to make it work at the 11th hour....so I'm sure they'll find a way. |

Here's Tony D on why signing took extra time:
"You see a lot of RFAs in the same situation – just waiting things out and seeing what’s happening. There was nothing personal. We were just kind of waiting, looking at options. ... The cap situation is what it is." |

My point was i wouldnt take the fact that Howden is playing on the second line tomorrow as proof that he is the 2C over Chytil |

Think Howden is way more suited for the 3rd line center. Chytil has the offense for the 2nd line where Howden has the defense for the 3rd |
