Man-o-man I sure do like this team we have. So much awesome to absorb. Hughes, PK, Hall, Nico, Bratt, Boqvist, Simmonds, etc etc etc the list goes on... plus Erika being all ultra hot and smiley. Such a beautiful lady. What did we do to deserve all this?! I can't wait until Oct. 4th to see this full group play together in games that mean something. This is just too crazy.

I know it's only preseason...but man I did not expect Hughes to look this good already. I figured it'd take him some time to adjust to the league and was mentally prepared for him to start really slow. Obviously still could happen once the regular season hits, but he was simply electric tonight.

He certainly doesnt look out of place so thats a good sign!

After what we went through with Parise and Kovy its nice to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

There was a good stretch there where we would be lucky to score one goal and we would have to wait till the last 5 minutes of the game to see it then watch them lose in overtime which sucked but we also had no prospects during that stretch either so it is amazing to have guys to be excited about again!

There were a lot of lazy narratives floating around about Hughes at draft time. People assume that if you aren't physically mature it will take longer to adjust to the league, but Hughes game has never been about size or strength.

He literally looks dangerous everytime he touches the puck it is quite impressive!

I literally cant wait till the full roster is playing. Its going to be pretty damn exciting and with the speed through out the entire line up we should be able to draw a lot of penalties to get our skilled guys those easy pp pts.

One of his major strengths is on point and creative passing. You don't need to be a monster of a man to make killer passes.

I am liking what I see from PK. On the ice and on the bench. He always is talking to everyone and pumping them up. Seems to be a great leader for the kids. I really like that we have him here. He was kidding around with the staff like they were old pals. The guy has a unique personality. I think it will also be great for Newark with the community involvement he has. They could use a few heros. They certainly have one in PK.

Also Simmonds. Always loved to hate him. Now I really see why. He is a force out there and adds an element we have been desperately needing. Watching him chirp the other players is great. There were a few moments where he was smiling talking smack and the other guy hot all mad. Love it. It would have been great to see him bury that empty net chance, but this pre-season and it wouldn't have been a difference maker.

On to our other new toys tonight to watch Gusev and Boqvist and crew. I have absolutely never been this excited for pre-season. There were years I didn't even watch/follow because pre-season.

This team has me walking around like Ron Burgandy.

I was at the Game last night. Kid is so mentally quick and surprisingly calm. It’s crazy. Honestly he’s better then I expected. I thought it was more likely he’d be an overate pick then a truly elite player but now I think he could be unreal.

That said, he will benefit from filling out a little. He’s doesn’t look particularly small but he’s obviously still a kid and not a man yet.

Absolutely. He understands the and sees the game at an elite level. I frankly think Hall would be nuts to not sign here. I was all worried about it before. He is awesome but this is where he needs to be if he wants a cup. These young guns are dragging this club there one way or another I feel. Could be wrong but I see some amazing synergy brewing and we havent even seen the full squad together.

I dont know why Hall wouldnt. He was pretty upset about not being part of the solution with Mcdavid and now he has Nico and Jack to choose who he wants dishing him the puck so he would have to have pretty strong reasons to pass that up.

They were saying last night that Shero will sit down with him and his agent before the season starts to see where everyone is at. He may just sign now. If they give him a killer contract, and he doesn't take it and gets a major injury (Hockey Gods forbid) this year he is pretty (frank)ed. Why risk it? Just sign the paper Taylor.

Im so used to our prospects waiting a month before they get their first goal. Hughes is just gonna steam roll through the season.

Blackwood might steal the No. 1 for Cory.

Blackwood didnt start playing goalie till like 13 or something like that and he has won an ohl goalie of the year award, played for Canada and was the second goalie taken in his draft class so I am more then hopeful he will be a starting goalie.

He is large athletic and very well positioned that I literally think the sky could be the limit for him.

It’s possible but I’m personally more impressed with Schneider’s resurgence then how Blackwood played. Both gave high quality starts but I thought Cory faced more dangerous shots and made the tougher saves. And the posts love him... talk about a snake bit guy finally having some good luck.

Blackwood is pretty good with the stick and definitely better on that regard. I don’t completely trust him yet because he was flat out bad in the AHL.

Whatever happens with the starter-backup question I am optimistic that these guys can be a high quality tandem. While our offense looks impressive I’m not sold in our D and think we will ultimately live and die on goaltending.

Todd Cordell: P4 New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers: Taylor Hall is back!!
- Todd.Cordell

Thanks Todd. I have caught some flak from guys regarding my take on Greene. I feel that an injury to RD or LD will allow for Vats or Smith to move over and make a spot for Greene, so regardless he should play in plenty of games. That being said, he is not in our top 3 LD options and Vats has looked pretty good on the left in the past.

Hughes, Gusev, Nico all looked poised for some quality offensive production based on the preseason play. Yikes is this team looking fast, young, and skilled. Extend Nico ASAP Ray!!!!

People also like to forget Patrick Kane exists because it doesn't fit their narrative of grit and strength being important.
