Interesting article stemming from a tweet by Roenick after Chabot's $8M x 8 contract.
@Jeremy_Roenick
NHL contracts today just blow my mind.... I remember when you actually had to earn high salaries, now they are just given and hope they work out! Crazy. |

Even though the Hunters in London saw and suggested the same thing, I think after the Jokiharju trade, it's not going to be a consideration. I tend to agree with you that that is where his instincts and top skills lie. - pdx2ord
I appreciate the updated insight . I had read somewhere this week a consideration about him moving to a forward spot. He definitely has all the skills and talent if he did.
He would need to be paired with a top defensive minded partner to help compliment his game.

It is great he is on the ice. He still needs to get approved for a full contact. Once he does, then he can play. Once that happens, hopefully we can end the absolutely horrible idea of playing Kampf at 3rd line center, or even at all. I don't see any reason why Kampf isn't an extra forward or at Rockford if Dach is healthy. He just isn't any good at anything and a 4th line of Carpenter, Caggulia, and Smith is much more appealing than Kampf playing anywhere - SaadBeast
Thanks for the update guys on the protocol. Saadbeast,,,I agree with you regarding kampf. I think seeing Wedon in the lineup tonight as 3c is a better option , until Dach is cleared and gets going.

GOTTA love JR . He calls it out . It's a shame that guys like him who played their hearts out scored 50 goals and was the eptomie of a warrior never even sniffed a quarter of what these low end players make.

Good morning, 66. Moving Boqvist to forward is silly talk, imo. He's developing as a defenseman at a nice pace.
Hope you're well, look out for the lavender sniffers, eh. - mohel
I'm hanging in there, thanks Mo.
A million years ago I played all positions growing up. But after any thought of playing in the show had passed I did plenty of time in the beer leagues where they were no-check. And at first I was friggin lost trying to play D. I used to run anyone I could when I played for keeps but all of a sudden having to maintain a gap all the time wasn't easy. But sooner than later I noticed that it was a whole lot easier to read the play when I wasn't locked in on a hit because as I was skating backward I could see everyone at the same time except my goalie. I wound up getting more apples as a D man than as a C in the late stages of my playing days and it was a lot easier. I had plenty of time to decide what I was going to do. And despite being on the ice half the time instead of one third of the tie as a C I wasn't as tired. I could pick my spots as to when I would expend my energy. I found that I was a much better playmaker as a D man than a center. So that is a big reason I liked Big Buff playing back and that goes for Boqvist as well. |

A bit hypocritical if Roenick as he was a guy always chasing money and his name in lights...and didnt quite listen to vets when they told him he was getting bad advice from his agent |

Roenick made $8.5, $8.0, and $7.5 in the 3 pre-cap years before the lost season.
That was also 15 years ago - what would those amounts be in 2019 dollars?
The problem was that players like Roenick were being paid much more than hockey revenues could justify - hence the lost season and the new hard cap. |

If that means handling the puck then the best position for Boqvist to get the puck is defense where it comes to him. And as it's doing so he can scan the ice with time and space and know what he wants to do when he gets it. I stand by what I said. He wouldn't see the puck half as much as a forward. - 6628
Yeah, I agree. Welcome to the new NHL - I know we all find it different Taylor, but now teams seem to have two or even three psh defenders like this.
Boqvist is unique b/c he is so highly skilled and quickly deliberate in his attacks.
He's even different than Erik Karlsson you he was compared to prior to his draft year.
Taylor is correct about the abilities being like an offensive attacking forward, bt the idea is to have backlinewrs who add more problems to the opposition when transition has happened.
I gotta feeling you are going see the Hawks to put their eggs in an offensive basket, keeping Smith and Carpenter, but looking towards new players who add attack skills...if yo can out score teams, you win, and if you are attacking you are not defending, and the defensive system works well when you have the lead(s).

Does anyone recall how long it took before Kruger evolved into his PK/defensive role? Also, who do you see as potential PK specialists this year? Ideally, I'd like to see Toews time in that situation reduced. Does a good job there, but will someone else step up and log more minutes? I hope so. JT has enough on his plate, IMHO. |

The Hunters wanted him up front because they had such a glut of talent on the back-end, so there was more than a revelation by them; they wanted the benefits on the attack and didn't care to deal with the "build a defender " aspect that came with the kid.
Boqvist may be the best offensive threat in his class when all is said and sone in a few more years.
Meanwhile Bowen Byram was again a minus two in his preseason.
The "future #1 defenseman" continues to be able to read situations in his end.
Even with Colorado backline injuries, I don't see him being viewed as the answer their at this juncture....

So Carpenter is a useless plug but Kampf is somehow useful?
In what aspect of the game is Kampf better than him?
Carpenter produced (.65ppg) in the AHL before getting to the NHL
He had 126 hits in 68 games and is better in faceoffs
But everyone else is stupid. - PatShart
Better on FOs by a whopping 1 % for their careers. One guy took 700 and the other 300 last season. Carpenter has almost as many FOs in his career as Kampf had in one season. The sample sizes aren't exactly equal.

Hey I appreciate you understanding. Yeah that comment it was more of a run on , murphy shouldn't be sent down . I just was typing away and his name was inserted. That's my mistake,
Everything else you Said I totally agree with. Maybe with bringing in De HAAN it might cover some of muphys deficiencies.
I just think murphy is more of a 5 or 6m defenseman than a 3 or 4. - Taylorst1
Agree with him being a number 5 or 6 on a good team.

My concern as a fan , is the aging and contract situations keith/Seabrook, Gus his defensive mishaps. I sure hope murphy if paired with DE HAAN can help overcome the teams certain deficiencies.
I'd also be curious to see who JC goes with as a 7th guy. |

I'm not sure your statement is fair in Jr's time here in chicago. I don't fault anyone who works hard and has earned a raise to ask for it.
He was a warrior when he played in Chicago. Maybe his time afterwards is what your talking about? |

My ears always turn up when people start numbering a player (i.e. #5 defenseman). What do you mean by Murphy being a 5, or 6? What do you expect out of a 3-4?
We all know that Hjalmarsson was a horse defensively, but he never really put up much offense. In the last few years, you can argue that Murphy has just as good advanced stats. |
