Agree. Dude is 24 and a 6th round pick. There is a reason they gave him a 2 way deal. He just happened to be the best "so called prospect" they had at the time. He has been passed by many players that are just better. He has zero shot of making the team. And I don't think he will ever amount to more than a career minor leaguer - SaadBeast
As soon as everyone realizes what a useless plug Carpenter is (spoiler alert: it won’t take long) he’ll be back. |

Tracy Myers tweeted the roster for tonight's game and praise be to the hockey gods that all the big shooters are in the lineup but Kampf is not. She didn't show lines but here is the list:
Forwards: Toews, Kane, Cat, Strome, Saad, Shaw, Kubalik, Nylander, Smith, Caggiula, Carpenter, and Wedin.
D-men: Keith, Gustafsson, Maatta, Seabrook, Murphy, Boqvist and Koekkoek. |

Read an article earlier about if Sikura is on the outside looking in for a roster spot. I’d say he’s not even on the bubble and firmly planted in Rockford to start 100%. - Assman22
Agree with that assessment, but honestly, still haven't given up on the kid.

It is great he is on the ice. He still needs to get approved for a full contact. Once he does, then he can play. Once that happens, hopefully we can end the absolutely horrible idea of playing Kampf at 3rd line center, or even at all. I don't see any reason why Kampf isn't an extra forward or at Rockford if Dach is healthy. He just isn't any good at anything and a 4th line of Carpenter, Caggulia, and Smith is much more appealing than Kampf playing anywhere - SaadBeast
Personally i think Kampf is a solid 4th line player. With Carpenter and whoever will be hard to play against. Kampf is at that age, couple years experience, 24, bigger guy, penalty killer, responsible. |

Boqvist appears very gifted and it wouldn't hurt for him or the team to put him in the best possible position to succeed.
We see players in various different sports get drafted and make position changes based on coaches seeing that player better suited to excel in a different position.
From the naked eye boqvist isn't a physical player , if your playing defense you still to some degree need to be able to bring some physicality to your game.
Boqvist likes to drive the play and create scoring chances by moving up around and behind the net which means a forward needs to always be aware and shift to a defensive posture to cover his spot?
That's always a opportunity for teams to create 2 on 1s or even breakaways. - Taylorst1
Even though the Hunters in London saw and suggested the same thing, I think after the Jokiharju trade, it's not going to be a consideration. I tend to agree with you that that is where his instincts and top skills lie.

He's so young yet, his quick passing, stick handling, quickness with feet, willing to make contact are all very good signs for a dman. Patience, and sometimes things are said and printed to get the players attention, so far so good |

Boqvist is pretty much the same size as Chelios. He can and will play defense. The kid has special talents from the back end. Moving him to forward would be the definition of not putting him in a position to succeed.
Kid just turned 19. He can and will get stronger. The difference in his defensive play from last season has been huge.
Some fans complaining the Hawks have developed D-men. Solution. Move the best D prospect to forward. |

That thought from the Hunters came at the very beginning of last season. Didn't hear much of that when Boqvist was lighting up the playoffs, tho. |

Carpenter is definitely a plug. His puck skills are non-existent. Doesn't mean he can't be useful but a plug he is. |

Hopefully wearing a different uniform. There are too many players these days that bring the effort. Perlini's 20 points can be replaced. |

I think this might be the season where we see what Kampf is really made of or at least what the Hawks really think of him. Not saying anything bad about him, but he made the team the last couple years more because of lack of other viable options. He has had some good and meh moments but this season he will need to earn his keep more so. There is more competition and icetime will be harder to come by. I think this year will be a better year to judge depth players. |

Was it his 19 points he had last year or his 45% at the dot that you loved so much? |

I liked the way he was able to keep the opposition from getting set up in the defensive zone and getting the puck out in transition. But i see your point, the 45% on faceoffs is what he should be judged on |

That's a good perspective to consider for a young player like Kampf. Had he not been injured for most of last season, Highmore could have been in the same situation playing considerable time on the Hawks after an initial stint with the Hogs.
Also, had Highmore been at least a stable force in the bottom 6 last season, it may not have made acquisitions like Carpenter necessary. Possibly Smith, too, but that had another major factor in shedding Anisimov's contract. |

What you described is the primary measuring stick I would have for Kampf.
He's not going to put up big numbers and every Hawks center not named Toews seems to have a faceoff ratio less than 50% but Kampf's capacity to suppress the opposition and flip the ice is his calling card and what will give him regular NHL employment.
I like Kampf, mainly as a shutdown 4C and don't mind if he plays occasional 3C. He's not a long-term 3C, though.
Not to mention he's surprisingly strong. Stacked as he's not only a pro hockey player but also a cross fit athlete like his wife. |

So Carpenter is a useless plug but Kampf is somehow useful?
In what aspect of the game is Kampf better than him?
Carpenter produced (.65ppg) in the AHL before getting to the NHL
He had 126 hits in 68 games and is better in faceoffs
But everyone else is stupid. |

It does help clarify some things, Taylor. Always appreciate your posts. My only question involved an earlier statement you made about Murphy joining Dahlstrom and Special K heading to Rockford. Clearly, Murphy shouldn't be sent down, should he? May not be the very best D-man to ever wear a Hawks sweater, but he does play his heart out, and doesn't shy away from contact. Last year was such a clusterF it was almost impossible to sort through the wreckage. I'm more than okay with Murphy starting on this squad. Team him up with another NHL quality defender, and I think he'll blend in nicely. - gabriel
Hey I appreciate you understanding. Yeah that comment it was more of a run on , murphy shouldn't be sent down . I just was typing away and his name was inserted. That's my mistake,
Everything else you Said I totally agree with. Maybe with bringing in De HAAN it might cover some of muphys deficiencies.
I just think murphy is more of a 5 or 6m defenseman than a 3 or 4.
