Eventual lineup (Dermott and Hyman back):

Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Mikheyev - Matthews - Johnsson
Kerfoot - Nylander - Kapanen
Spezza - Gauthier - Moore
13th: Shore

Rielly - Dermott
Muzzin - Barrie
Kivihalme - Ceci
7th: Marincin

Andersen

- MaximusAurelius[waiver backup goalie]

two things jump out at me on this

1) Nylander is going to play with Matthews - he's going to get a 40 game opportunity to prove he can turn back like nobodies business

2) Dermott can't be penciled in on the top pair - he's going to get 5-6 offer sheets in excess of 6M$ .... not sure who will break this first Dreger or Lebrun

If they didnt have to play one of the best teams in the NHL in the first round every year we'd probably be having quite a different conversation right now.

Also, the their main issue in the playoffs was not grit, it was their D wasnt great, and last year the powerplay looked like they were the Senators, but worse. If they had more grit on the backend theyd be fine.

Meh, the leafs were also one the better reg season teams in the league. No excuse the past 2 years.

Looked pretty good from what I seen. Looking forward to seeing more of him during the preseason to get better look though.

very engaged, strong on puck, had some great in tight passing sequences with Rielly amongst others, doesn't seem shy about puck retrieval...

big guy (for a change) who can move well and handle the puck

those guys were effective, Zezel was a beast in the faceoff circle.

and they chipped in a fair number of important goals.

definitely not easy to play against...

something like that is exactly what the Leafs need now... a group with an identity.

- BorjeFan4Ever

You're not allowed to use your feet anymore, so Zezel's signature move wouldn't work.

I loved Zezel.

I know you do it for attention. But no max, willie will not be 3rd center. He will be a winger.
Congrats on keeping him in the line up though.

I dunno, I'd try him at 3rd line centre for a bit.

So pencil him in for the 3rd line?

been saying since trading Kadri that Leafs need a better 'true' #3C.
Same for the backup goalie issue.

Leafs have very much depth on wing - should trade one of Johnsson / Nylander / Kapanen / (Kerfoot) / ... to address those key positions..

I think so... 3rd line LW, with Kerfoot and Kapanen.

Gauthier will need to clear waivers if he is sent down.

That might get interesting.

Or it might not...

He's also waiver-exempt, so the Leafs can send him down (on paper) every off-day to save some of that precious, precious cap space.

I can't wait for Beatle John and Komisoreass to complain about that.

We took him six drafts ago, and he can't stick as our 4th line centre.

It might be time for somebody to trot out the ol' sunken-cost fallacy explanation.

Marner is to Kucherov what Chabot is to Hedman.

Should be good deal for Sens if he continues to be elite young dman.

But this should help give some perspective on why Marner makes more than Kucherov.

My guess is that it will be;

Johnsson - Matthews - Nylander
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Mikheyev - Kerfoot - Kapanen
Marchment - Spezza - Shore

Rielly - Ceci
Muzzin - Barrie
Dermott - Schmaltz

Andersen
Neuvirth

- PatC80

Mikheyev Tavares Marner
Hyman Matthews Nylander
Agostino Lowry Kapanen
Moore Goat Gaudet/Marchment

Rielly - Ristolainen
Muzzin - Barrie
Harpur - Liljegren/Schmaltz

Dermott & Johnsson to Buffalo
Ristolainen(.5m retained) + Borgen to Toronto

Ceci to Winnipeg
Lowry to Toronto
