I'm hoping that Marner's contract has a huge impact on Point's negotiations.
That would make overpaying Marner a little more palatable. |

not arguing with you at all... but if the interview includes anything named Dreger or Lebrun AT ALL...
then, it like all the total BS about offer sheets, etc...
are just that... BS from beginning to end.
have they started talking about how the Leafs won't be able to sign Dermott, and how Barrie is going to get 8M a year? |

I heard that Philly gave Dermott an offer sheet, and then the Rangers sent an offer sheet to Philly for that offer sheet. |

Marner is much much better than Rantanen and Point.
1.5-2mln AAV better. |

That's sadly not an exaggeration.
Look at this: https://www.realtor.ca/re...waterfront-communities-c1
A million years ago I rented a unit just down the hall from that one. It was 400 square feet. You walked in, there was a bathroom on the right, a small kitchen with a pass through window just beyond, and then one room.
That's $730k. - Monkeypunk
I love the exclamation mark after the square footage.... 758 sq ft! |

I like to look at players and their number of takeaways - in combination with takeaways - giveaways.
I think Marner will be close to leading the league in takeaways this year (with McDavid, Barkov, Stone, O'Reilly and a few others).
When looking at takeaways - giveaways last season, but are quite similar (+10 approx).
Marner is much more of a risk taker - which is expressed in those stats.
Point is more of a safe player - very valueable (like Bergeron for example) but to me a as a fan less attractive to watch (although still can appreciate it a lot).
So to clarify (and to clarify what I meant) - to me, Marner and Point are equally good players (as for helping a team winning a cup - might even be that the 2way FW that Point is add more value to that) - however, Marner gets more money because of the fact that fans like his 'high-risk high-reward' play more - basically it sells (tickets and outfits and hats etc. etc.).
p.s.1: have to recognise that Nylander was better than I expected in the takeaway - giveaway category 2 seasons ago ; maybe there is some hope..
p.s.2: obviously, on bad teams, some of these players will likely to have a negative takeaway vs giveaway balance - so i am aware there is some heavy bias in the stat. |

It's interesting because Colorado is one of a few teams that has lots of talent but can probably afford to pay $11 million for a player like Rantanen. Its a fair comparisson,
similar point totals, same position - I don't see enough of Colorado to give a reasonable and unbiased assessment but Rantanen is 6'4" and he'll get paid IMO |

I really like Marner - I see him alot more than the other two. That said - similar point totals for all three - Point scores more goals which should be worth a little more than assists. Rantanen also scores more goals than Marner and he has size - so I disagree with you.

Marner was active, but rusty.
Goat looked like a Gazelle - seriously he looked for more interested than usual.
Spezza, conversely looked like Jason Allison with dull skates.
Barrie looked rusty, but isn't averse to carrying the puck and mixing things up.
Schmaltz looked weak
Marincin looked exactly like Marincin (which isn't a good thing) |
