This isn't your first rodeo, Wedginald.

Vets mail it in during preseason; it's the cool thing to do. To look cool. You know, because they're vets and only the greenbacks try.

It might be my first time watching a pre-season game on TSN.

Does that count?

The Goat was good.

it pairs very well with Pinot Noir

- bixll

Yup, because he was trying hard, which is in contrast to 80% of the the players that dressed. So did Duclair, who also has something to prove.

Despite that, he did look good in comparison to the other Marlies, so I was impressed; I think he's gotten faster for sure.

Wait, wasn't that supposed to be the charming, refreshing stuff about this guy.

I really suspect stuff didn't come out the way it was intended, but yeah, he seems to be a little delusional at this point.

- Aetherial

He made a decent point in that I too would prefer playing with Scheif and Wheeler...but Ehlers isn't exactly garbage. It's not like he played with Tanev and Lowry

Blaming poor linemates.. wtf.

You know a guy who fires the puck into his own net on a one timer is at least a jack short of a royal flush.

To be honest, I wasn't watching very closely, but the commentators seemed to think that the best Leaf out there was the Goat.

If it comes down to a coin flip, I'd rather have him than Spezza. Gauthier may improve a little. Spezza is on the elevator to the lobby.

The goat was being set up all night. He saw some time with Marner and Tavares.

Because you are forcing me to make observations about last night's game, here goes:

- Marner looked lazy
- Muzzin looked slow

The first one doesn't concern me at all.

The second one scares me a teeny bit.

- Atomic Wedgie

It's hard to say. There was very little sense of urgency for any of the vets on the Leafs. The D looked sort of out-of-sync a lot of the evening. Muzzin's only 30. I'm not really concerned yet. He was never that fast to begin with, and I'll say that the Sens have some pretty fast young skaters - who are trying to impress.

I find with preseason, I don't typically want to judge the guys who are a lock, because they might be working on little things, or just sort of stretching out, or whatever-the-crap it is that professional athletes do to be professionally athletic. I'm usually more concerned with the young guys vying for a spot.

I think they're both gonna be on the 4th line. Spezza will take the draws and whatnot and La Chèvre will play centre as play is on.

That is because, you normally mail in your involvement as a fan during pre-season.

Laine was playing with Little and Ehlers, both are good players.. I'm not sure why he was complaining about his linemates.

Right?!

If anything, his linemates should be the ones female doging about having to play with him. Outside of November last season, Laine was a replacement level player.

Little and Ehlers should come out complaining how their numbers are down because Laine could put the puck in ocean, if he was standing on the end of the wharf.

I'm a crafty vet. Good in the dressing room. I act as a mentor to young fans.

I don't need to get excited about the pre-season. My spot in the Hockeybuzz Leafs Thread line-up is already locked up.

I'm just trying to stay healthy for opening night.

Funniest moment from last night's game:

Ray Ferraro talking about how he had flown from Vancouver to St. John's for the game.

Poor bastard.

Ehlers was injured last season as well. I think Laine wants to force a trade to Toronto to play with Matthews.

A friend of mine who's originally from Winnipeg and bleeds the Jets has said that Little's play has declined significantly over the past couple of years and last year, while he was pretty down on Ehlers, too, he felt that Little's poor play was affecting his linemates.

Posting up on the left side of the ice and waiting for someone else to do all of the work and pass you the puck while your stick is raised waiting to chuck a one-timer is hard work.

Good article on Laine in the Winnipeg Free Press:

I wonder if Spatso still thinks the Leafs should have considered him?

Gotta be ready once the season starts.

Two points in October are worth the same as two points in April.

We want to get off to a good start. Get some momentum going.
