Meh. This fan base gets too wound up about "the guy" of the day. The game in Victoria Horvat did poop (frank) all until 59:00 mark. You could see he's a better player, but not really engaged. We all hate Lui, but mostly because he makes $6m. If he was on a 1 year, $1m contract no one would care. I would put Leivo, Baertschi, Motte, Schaller, Gaudette etc all in that group with Goldy and Virts as guys who are plug and play.

ive run out of patience with both. i would rather have gaudette slide over to wing and take their place on the team this year. i think hes looking like a legit nhler in camp but imo his ceiling will be higher with less responsibility
- johnnykarate

Past two games I've watched him, he looked rusty and nowhere near as good as the competition he would need to beat out.

Hutton signs 1 year with LA Kings 1.5

Canucks trying to trade Tim Schaller according to Jim Matheson.

How bad will the Jets be if Buff decides to retire. He left camp to go home and contemplate his NHL future.

imo he looks stronger than last year and his positioning has been good. youre right that he hasnt done enough to beat out sutter and beagle down the middle but if he shifts to the wing id put him out there ahead of loui, leivo, schaller, virtanen, goldy, and probably motte. hes shown more engagement with the play than the previous 5 (i dont think mottes played yet?)

I had forgotten how awful pre-season hockey is.

Virtanen and Goldy have been much better than him. Schaller might be the only one on that list i'd put below Gaudette in the pre season.

Was it Gaudette's line that got caught on the ice for like 5 minutes in the 3rd last night?

Gaudette is a no show in camp so far. He doesnt look like he's fighting for a spot. Looks like he accepted his fate...

He's trying hard. I just don't see him accomplishing enough from that trying to win a spot.

We’ll see how he looks later in camp when he’s playing with actual NHLers, but for now it’s definitely Sutter’s job. He’s been the most pleasant surprise so far.

Don’t think so. Chatfield was one of the D guys. They had just had a bit of sustained pressure in the O zone then turned it over and spent the next 90 or 120 seconds getting schooled. Was only half paying attention.

It was embarrassing how hard the two Johns were trying to sell Sportsnet's baseball programming last night.

thats what stands out to me about him. his hands might not be where they need to but the guy puts the effort in consistently which is more than i can say about jake and goldy

I had no doubt a healthy Sutter would own that spot. Narratives are for suckers. Only Horvat, Petey, and Miller are better in that position. Don't need games to know that...
