To play devil's advocate, Ovechkin was pretty one dimensional his first hand-full of years in the NHL. I remember the first time I saw him play in person, he literally just stood around the offensive blue line waiting for his teammates to pass him the puck. It was quite disgusting to see, and it immediately answered the Ovi vs Crosby debate for me.

I'm not saying Ovi is now a Selke Trophy candidate, but obviously his over all game has improved dramatically. Time will tell what Laine is really worth. And that is probably why a bridge deal is a good idea for both sides.

Ovechkin scored 52/106 his first season with literally no supporting cast. The next leading scorer was Zubrus with 57 points. He had 163 goals and 310 points over his first 3 seasons and he did it against top lines every single shift.

Laine by comparison gets to play sheltered minutes away from top lines and has a huge portion of his goals come by way of one of the most stacked power plays in the league.

He's a good goal scorer but the Ovechkin comparable is laughable. He's done way less with way more. At this point in his career he's not even qualified to sniff Ovi's jock strap.

Holyyyy fack just saw Marner was the cause of the 3-1 goal too. Terrible turnover up the middle you see that? Looked like Jake Muffin out there. Not a good start to the Stanley Cup year eh

You're right. They should probably throw in the towel right now. Everyone knows the Stanley Cup was decided on the first night of the rookie tournament when Goal Caulfield lit the lamp 12 times in 2 periods. Why would anyone else even bother icing a team this year?

Yeeeeeahhh... I wasn't comparing Laine to Ovechkin. The guy was talking about one dimensional players, and I was just pointing out that Ovechkin was like that in his early years. And look at the career he's had

I didn't mean to suggest you personally were comparing the two, but you commented on the holes in Ovechkin's game in response to an Ovi/Laine conversation.

I don't disagree that Ovi had/has faults. I'm just saying that Laine isn't half the player Ovechkin was at similar points in their careers.

Fair point except Ovechkin was a beast, (in the O-zone anyway) all the time. Laine is invisible half the time.

Come on Sally, trolling pre-season results is really weak, even for you.
