Idk if Boqvist would make it over Beaudin. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel that if you're looking for someone to step in for a handful of games he would be the guy to do so because he's more defensively sound right now. Both could benefit from some time in Rockford though

I hadn't heard that his timetable was moved up that much. Last time, which was a few days ago, I heard he was still 3-4 weeks from being able to return. If he's ready that's awesome.

Yep, Lazarus tweeted it today. Very excited, because CDH will bring true stability to the blueline. Not gonna score a bucketload of points, but he'll play solid, sturdy defense. Would like him in there opening night.

Perlini did lead the team with 8SAT, 5 on net, and was credited with 2 hits, for whatever those numbers are worth.

I didn't know they were counting hits against the ice these days.

Is Kirby Dach staying somewhere with Kim Johnsson? No mention of him since the first day of camp. I figured there would be some kind of update on him. I am just really surprised there hasn't been anything from the Hawks on him.
- ChicagoHope

Colliton said he was still in concussion protocol yesterday.

That's great news. I loved the trade to get him. We don't need any flashy players on the backend (we have that in Gus and his likely replacement in Boqvist). We need defensive minded guys who can stop the rush and clear the puck out. I think de Haan and Maatta will help tremendously in that department. The question will be if it's enough with an aging Keith and Seabrook as well on the backend to make a difference in making the Playoffs or not

Highmore was great last night.

I don't see it happening, however, I'd like to pin him and Kampf against each to see who's truly more effective at both ends.

Highmore was fantastic on the backcheck last night. Also seems to be in the right spot.

- Tyler Cameron

Aside from the play he lost his man on one of the goals, he was good. Why pit them against one another? IIRC, they played together in Rockford during their playoff run two seasons ago and were vg together doing all kinds of dirty work which allowed Edjsell to score.

I think your first cuts come from this group.
- kwolf68

Nilsson and Wedin for sure. Beaudin, Special K and Dahlstrom? 2 of 3 for sure. Beaudin needs some A time. As far as the other two, I thought Gilbert was better than both of them last night.

With limited viewing of Highmore I can't say - but I like what I saw last night from him and the more I see from Kampf - the more I want to see from him. As Q would say - Kampf is (just) "OK".

Mario Tirabassi:

Chance Beaudin gets scratched after playing last night to give Krys and Carlsson their fair look with #Blackhawks. Excited to see what Entwistle can do centering with 2 NHL-caliber wings. Top line tonight might end up being opening night 2nd line for Chicago.

Gus looked like Gus. Floats in the defensive zone. Maybe loses focus. Out of position and overplays in certain situations. But it is just on some shifts. Other shifts he looks engaged and competent. When the puck is on his stick all of a sudden he looks more determined and is ready to make plays. I like him as a Hawk until Boqvist is ready for a roster spot or a bigger role at the NHL level. But Gus should be on the 1st power play unit (5 min per game), with limited minutes (12 min per game) playing 5v5, and no PK. The problem is how can you limit his minutes playing 5v5 without limiting his probable partner's minutes 5v5. That partner is probably Keith, but could be Maatta or DeHaan. Another problem is that he is forced to play on his off side because we have mainly left handed defensemen. If we could move Gus for a young quality RD puck moving power play quarterback that actually plays defense you would have to consider it.

So you want somebody to trade us a young defenseman who is better than Gus for Gus who would be a rental?

As I said in my post, I like Gus as a Hawk until Boqvist is ready to claim that role.

You do know that some trades are not one player for one player right. Their could be other pieces in the transaction. Also you could acquire a player with less offense than Gus but more defense. Would that player be better than Gus? Maybe a push. Justin Faulk RD ($4.83mil 35 pts & plus 9) and Gus ($1.2mil 60pts & -6) are both in the last years of their contracts with other pieces included in the trade it could make sense. I am not saying this is a fit, but deals like this could be out there.

Seeing what some of the defensemen who signed over the summer got paid, its hard to see Gus getting anywhere near the money that everyone was talking about last season if those are the comps. Talk on here was that another 60 pt. season and Gus would be asking for $6m+ on his next deal. I don't see it happening.

they would trade perlini and or scratch him before they sent him down, he would not make it thru waivers. would you be surprised to know he ranks 12th in the 2014 NHL draft in goals scored? above all of these players: and he falls in the middle in regard to games played.

Looks like #Blackhawks are playing a few guys in back-to-back games... Perlini, Wedin, Nilsson, Dahlstrom, Koekkoek, Beaudin.

Take that for what it's worth.

- Tyler Cameron

Some players Bowman and Colliton need to determine where they start this season. Some of those players have to show improvement in weak areas of their game. Since there is a deeper higher grade of competition this season, if they still like a prospect - or whatever player no matter his experience - they need to determine where he plays and how much TOI. Rockford could become a place just to play and stay in game condition.

Could be a lot of frequent miles travelled between Rockford and Chicago.

Could also be a spot where a prospect gets real opportunity to improve by having a top line talent as part of the five on ice. For a cast full of borderline talent and prospects expected to improve, that may be giod if they cannot break into a top spot in Chicago - at leazt not immediately.

I would guess too that if a player is moved, then having some NHL showcase for a player should bring a draft choice in return.

I don't know enough about specific players on other teams but "less offensive" doesn't sound like a pp QB to me?

That was my first thought. DeBrincat - Strome - Shaw might be line 2 for the season opener.

So nice to have hockey back!

Nylander looked motivated and has the early track on a top six wing spot.

Kampf had a bad night. Fortunately for him, he has a lot of goodwill built up from last year with Coach C.

Beaudin needs some more strength and to finish plays in his own zone. Very promising, but not ready for NHL quite yet.

Boqvist has special talent and will be fun to watch. I still have trouble, though, seeing him develop enough of a two way game to be a true #1.

Erik Karlsson comparisons offensively aren't too far-fetched with Boquist. Give him a Defense-First partner and let him play his game...creating goals. The goal last night was insane skill...he batted the puck out of the air 2-3 times to corral the puck then sniped far side high on the wrap-around.

I wasn’t able to watch the game last night, however, I just watched the video on that goal. That is a sequence of play that not many players even at the pro level can perform.

Impressive.
