I didn't say Rielly was overpaid. But today, he's underpaid. So is Kadri. So is Andersen.
The Leafs overpaid some guys but they got some guys on nice deals too. They balance out. - JohnFergusonJr
Kadri? I guess Barrie? He's on a good deal this season. |

Barrie is on an incredible deal at 2.75. One of the best in the NHL for this season. |

Reilly got what he was worth at the time, but he certainly wasn't overpaid. Lou. Dubs did quite well with Johnsson and Kap, not so well with the big boys. Hopefully they prove him right and take a huge step forward this year. - aminnes
The day Rielly and Kadri signed no oen thought it was a steal. Now people forget that. Same will happen to some of our other deals. It will happen to Nylander this year. |

Being honest, I think most of us recognized that those two, in particular, were good deals.
I agree, though, these other contracts, with guys like Nylander, Matthews, or Marner, will or should demonstrate better than fair market value - and I also think Nylander will have a good year, hopefully putting all this negativity behind. |

He has to. If he has a poop year he will be hearing the boo birds. I do think he will for sure put up what he did before as in 20/60. I do have a hard time seeing him as more, but he has to do that to be left alone IMO. |

JT looks fantastic. I think he got a couple years younger over the summer. Family can do that for you, and he was a Leaf all..........summer.........long.
Mitch looks more mature and may have gained a little more weight. |

Agreed. I think a lot of us were very happy with both the Kadri and Rielly deals. Admittedly, they looked even better after another year or two when they both upped their games.
I think of the 3, Nylander is actually the one where it could come out looking like a great deal. If he plays up to the potential a lot of us see in him, especially if he's with Matthews, that deal could come out looking great.
If Matthews and Marner play to their potential, their deals will look alright, but I doubt anyone will be describing either of those deals as bargains lol.
As a few others have mentioned, at least most of our money is tied up in our best players instead of useless bums. So there's that. |

I think the best and most fair deal for player and team is if the first year or two they are overpaid and by the last few years of the contract they are underpaid.
The first two years will sting a bit with all of the big 4 contracts but I am almost positive that we will love those deals at the end....especially compared to their next deals. |

I can definitely see Willy getting around 70 points. Maybe something like 28/43/71 |

Leafs just have better RFAs.
Also, Andersen, Kapanen, Johnsson, Kadri and Rielly were great contracts. Still are. - JohnFergusonJr

I don't know if I'd go that far. Willy still has a long ways to go before he's comparable to Tyler Cup Winner Bozak. |

That's fair. No matter how good McDavid is, he'll always be making $12.5m, which isn't something anyone will complain about, but it's never going to look like MacKinnon's contract!
I am a believer in Nylander - I see his warts like a lot of people here do, but he has talent and skill and smarts and I think he cares more than people think. I firmly believe he'll succeed and that contract will look great. |
