plz let Farabee be our next Gagne, not Williams
- Coburns_Nose

In what way? Not get traded away for what turns out to be a rental?

J Will had an amazing career. And I would take his career over Gagne's any day of the week.

Apparently 3 years and 1 year from UFA status should command the same value as 6 years including 2 UFA years.

That's a tough one. Williams had tremendous team success in his career and brings top flight intangibles to the table but Gagne was probably the more skilled and better individual player.

My point is if Provorov was given the same or similar deals to Werenski and now Mcavoy, what would he have done that would have driven his AAV over 6.75 on his next contract? If he is great the next 3 years, then you give him the money.

Sorry I'm not giving him the contract he just got coming off last season.

So, Pavel, let's suppose the Flyers had bridged him. Then instead of moaning about his term, you'd moan about how they stupidly walked their No. 1 center directly to UFA status (because he could either take the QO or push an arbitration case at the end of a three-year, and then go UFA), where you are looking at paying him $10M+ to pre-empt going UFA.

Either which way, there's risk involved. In two years, if Sanheim's next deal balloons, you'll moan about why he didn't get long-term back when it would have been cheaper.

More goals, more assists, more points, more cups.....and a much more important factor in each of those cup wins.

No question Gagne was a more skilled player, just as it is no question Williams had a infinitely better career.

Arguing with monkeys.

And I don't use monkeys because of intelligence. Monkeys are very intelligent. I use monkeys because when they don't like something they poop in their hand and throw it at people. Sometimes they hit their target and sometime they don't. But they always end up with poop all over their hands....

I agree, there is no dispute that Williams had the better career. I just think in the context of looking at what player you'd prefer, it's close.

Still doesn’t get that on mcavoys next deal his starting point is over 7M.

Macavoy's deal is basically a 4 year deal. He's pretty much guaranteed another year at a minimum of 7.3M

Agreed right.
A player should only be viewed based off the last season.
Or not.

Big surprise you don't like the Provy deal.

I take Williams over Gagne 100% of the time.

Like MJL said though that isn't to disparage the skill Gagne had I just think Williams proved to have the X factor.

Hard to argue. One of those players that just wins and pulls his team to winning.

I love that they locked up Provorov for 6 years, through a big part of his prime years. I wish Sanheim was on a longer deal too.

Provorov is their defacto #1 D, and even though he had a down year last season, he is one of their key players. I can see Provorov getting an A on his jersey within the next few years. Columbus and Werenski are not really comparable, they have Seth Jones to lean on. Also the Boston deal with McAvoy is not really comparable either.

Buying UFA years for core guys is ultimately very smart.

I think Rubstov has the inside track to making the team, based on his defensive awareness, with Pitlick questionable. Love how Farabee is playing though.

Yes ..At no point do I take Gagne over Williams.

Maybe an All Star skating competition or something.

In his prime Gagne was an elite two-way winger good enough to play on Team Canada.

Yet Williams is considered a classic example of someone that leads and wins..

IM not saying Gagne was trash..He wasn't and I loved watching him Im just saying that I prefer the intangibles that Williams seemed to have over what Gagne offered.
