All I know is when we choose to have a kid play in the NHL instead of send them back down for 1 more year to Juniors (Nino, Bailey, Beauvillier, etc.). They seem to take a step back in their second year instead of continue to progress... where when we send a guy back down who already was dominant in juniors like Barzal they come back the following summer with a HUGE chip on their shoulder. ... Unless Dobson absolutely blows away the guys on the ice.. He should be sent back down. >> IMO.
any ramifications on status for expansion draft either way? - niteislander
I think everyone's different. There's no hard rule. Tavares was an exceptional talent and definitely shouldn't have gone back to juniors. Nino clearly wasn't ready and should have, but for some absurd "I gave him my word" nonsense from Snow. Beau did quite well in his second year...21 goals and part of that great line with Barzal and Eberle...so the model needs some adjusting there.
The one thing I know is that Lou definitely has a long enough track record of erring on the side of over-seasoning when it comes to young talent, and I don't think he'd make an exception in this case when we're talking about a position where there's already plenty of talent and depth. If Dobson cracks the roster, it'll most likely be for the reason you mentioned (he makes a big enough impression on the ice) and more...he'd have shown he's mentally ready to be there. |

agreed.. and I like that M.O. There is nothing wrong with these kids understanding how hard it is to make the NHL club. If he is sent back this year and then starts in the Bridge next year he will be hell bent when he finally gets a look (like Toews last year). I like that we have the depth and youth to have these kind of problems too. Aho would be getting a very real shot in most clubs but is a Looong shot to make this team.
I can't see Sbisa getting a contract as even an 8th depth guy with Hickey still on the roster. |

It was between me and Keith Jones as to who would be paid for the color commentary. This time Jones got the gig.... |

Danke schoen. Meanwhile, there was an altercation between some Flyer and some Islander. I think the latter's name was Burroughs. It led to an Islander power play which looked as ineffective as a Scotty Gomez power play.
Edit: Btw, this is the Flyer feed coming in on MSG network. Not sure whom you need to talk to. Ron Hextall? Gritty??? |

Gibson replaced Varlamov in goal. Isles just blew a nearly 2-minute 2-man advantage. A couple of guys with open nets couldn't finish. |

I'll take it up with Gritty. He and I both share a love of strong beer and hairy sows. |
