I was pretty sure they acquired Clarkson just to have the room to protect themselves from an offer sheet, should the need have arisen. - Kyleponi23
The 10% off season overage protected them from that. Clarkson is about extending their upper limit with the LTIR exemption to get cap compliant for the season.

I expect point to take a reduced deal on a bridge, but even in a bridge he has to be looking at 8+ now.

The real question is what does Beiber think of the deal? |

If he takes a bridge deal of 3 years the final year is going to kick Tampa Bay in the balls
His agent is going to ask for for a final year of something F'n ridiculous so they have to qualify him at the same amount. |

I really dont get this.
They have to have him on the roster to put him on LTIR. SO why not just not have anyone on the roster in the spot he is taking?
I isn't like LTIR magically increases their cap space or people would be rushing to snap up all the LTIR players.

That's not true. LTIR does exist during the summer. The Leafs will have Horton, Clarkson and others on LTIR when training camp breaks.
What's the story on Hyman's injury?

Sorry for the old article, it's just one of the first ones that popped up
Hyman - rehabbing a repaired ACL. I don't see him getting rushed back |

Who cares if it's worth it. Finally. No excuses now for Leaf nation. That is the best part |

yeah, but I guess what I am saying is that their cap currently includes hits for Horton and Clarkson. So LTIR removes those hits, either now or when the season starts.
Why not just not have traded for Clarkson? |

I don't see why. They have a lot of expensive contracts coming off the books after this season and they don't have any important RFAs that are going to command big money anytime soon (at least that I can see).
This will, however, put to the test the notion that you can win it all by having overwhelming offense and not much in the way of defense. I don't subscribe to that notion. - Hockey66
Look no further than the Hawks to see how this plays out.

There is summer LTIR. I'm not 100% sure what the differences are compared to in season but it is a thing. Leafs could have signed Marner at any time this summer with out worry of going more than 10% over the cap. I'll try and find an article.
Us casual fans shouldn't have to know this much about the CBA..

I just crunched the numbers. The Leafs could be cap compliant, just barely without Clarkson. There must of been some reason why they did that.

Point and Tampa are far apart, Bergy should send in another offer sheet |
