Many Germans and Eastern Europeans have very round faces. Take a trip to Bavaria and points East, most people have round faces. Sometimes extremely so.

I take great exception to that sir!

Have you seen... hm

Ok but have you listened to... *thinking*

Surely you have read Freud's Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious

It's... about humor

Freud was Austrian... Czech actually, but it was part of Austria at the time.

The French called Germans "bosches" in WW1, meaning thick head or big head. I guess they agree with you.

Mittlestadt is an enigma to me. Only way I can explain him is to say he resembles an elderly infant.

He reminds me of Gabe. A lot.

I would say keep him up, play him in a game or two, and watch from the press box for a week or two, get real practices/meetings/workouts in. So he can get a handle on what's expected/needed to play at this level. Then go back to Junior and work on those things as best as he can. Reinhart's final Junior season was not great, but he got better at all the things he needed to and came in and made an immediate impact.

Shortest read in the world?

The book of German humor.

But the funniest joke in the world was read in German a lot.

I don't think so. I think that was the old way.
Not sure of the finer details, but I think they can use the LTIR to conform to the Cap limit at the first minute of the regular season.
They should be fine...but tight to the Cap making call-ups for short-term injuries difficult.

Lunian (sp) has a great handle on this stuff.

- IonSabres

There's different equations for LTIR based on when you use it. Since they have so much to move around, they probably have to use the training camp equation instead of the regular equation. They can do this on the final day of camp. I think that gives them a little less wiggle room to work with, but they won't have trouble getting down to the cap.

How about next year when they lose $11m of LTIR and only have one dman signed. Projected $15m in cap space with 12 guys signed.

Getting rid of 2 big LTIR guys is a good thing.

Yup, they might just be in worse shape than Tampa.
I think Spezza is on an incentive based contract being that he is 35 and all, in which case those incentives count against next year's cap as well, further exacerbating the situation.
Gotta hope Spezza kicks ass and the Laughs still lose in round 1 against the bruins

Edit: Nope, Bolts are in as bad shape next year as Toronto, having many good RFA's coming due. Once Point signs, it could be much worse actually.

Tampa would just shed guys like Johnson, Palat, Killorn, Paquette. Leafs probably won’t resign Barrie, Muzzin, Ceci. There will always be a way to stay compliant but the depth of those rosters will take major hits unless they have stud players on ELC.

That’s not in bad shape. They could always trade some of those players for a boatload of draft picks.

That's a great thought except other teams realize said team is in cap hell and the offers lower substantially as a result.

Sorry, what?
Having 12 or 13 guys signed with an associated $67m+ chewed up isn't a problem, challenge or whatever word you want to use?
Sure, they can jettison 5 or 6 existing players but those are holes to fill.
Who has 5 or 6 guys on ELC's just ready to go?
It is a problem, they will overcome it surely as they have no choice but to comply...but at what hit to their roster?

At least it keeps guys like Jason Spezza in the league playing at vet minimums as well as the middle class of the NHL disappears into the abyss.

I’m sure the new TV contract will change things though in a few years and the cap will start pushing new heights.

Cozens should go back to Lethbridge this year. He needs to add weight. Dominating the WHL and being a fixture on the Canadian WJC team will help is development. Then he can grab a top 6 spot next year and be off to the races.

Everybody *should* be worried about the Germans.
