He's for sure worth 2 million. I'd almost think if the team even offered something reasonable like 1.5, maybe a deal could get done. I'm not sure why the team is playing such extreme hardball here.

They shouldn't have cap issues. Once they send guys down and if needed bury Smith, they should be able to squeeze him in even at 2 million.

Currently on capfriendly, the Rangers are shown with 1.1 million in cap room. Switching Kravstov with Mckegg is pretty much a wash, if you bury Smith, you are up to 2.2. If you demote Boo, thats another 700k. There really isn't a cap crunch.

but ADA doesn't have any leverage to force that to happen

I think saying ADA is worth 2 million is a lot different than thinking they should just give it to him

they need cap breathing room to make callups during the season

That's why I think that even if the team made a halfway reasonable offer he would take it. 900k isn't really a reasonable offer.

Don't forget, the cap is actually daily. The available space rolls over to the next day so in theory at points you can slightly exceed the cap if you were under enough on other days, also injured players don't count on the cap while they are on IR. This is how the Hawks were able to acquire Vermette a few seasons ago.

Possible the Rangers to let him go overseas this season and sign him next year? Not that I'm advocating this, we need him to play now.

Don't forget that we also have up to $5.3M in bonuses to go against the cap this season, as well.
That could make all the difference in their negotiations.

That's a good point, you could roll all those bonuses to next year's cap, but that is going to be a tight one as well.

In addition: David Quinn said Pavel Buchnevich enters camp as the Rangers 1st line RW with Mika Zibanejad at C and Artemi Panarin at LW. He said Filip Chytil and Lias Andersson are both centers for now. Ryan Strome likely to start on wing. That’s the way the coach sees it now. Could change
