Yea, like Pronger did with Carle.

Ha, I was going to say the same thing.

Provorov is already better than what Pronger, Chara, Timonen, Weber, Sutter, Desjardins and Keith were at the same age of younger within his first three seasons.

Feels like a very nice deal for Provorov but I wonder why he was willing to take it.

By comparison Alex Pietrangelo for the Blues is going into his last year of his contract (Base 7.5m, AAV 6.5) and by accounts will be looking the the 9-10 per year range for his next. Considering he signed his 6.5m AAV deal 6+ years ago, giving a similar contract now, to a player you consider to be your #1 of the future, it seems more than fair to the team and maybe not that great for the player.

I dunno about that. Of course this is your opinion - not based on any fact.

A true #1 guy should be capable of elevating a Chris Therien, Marc Methot, Mike Komisarek, Robert Hagg, etc, tho. That's part of what makes them so valuable.
- Tomahawk

Question becomes, who did Provorov play with in his first three seasons?

Upper body injury suffered in the summer? Can’t help but be disappointed in Patrick up to this point. The kid has such potential, but when you can’t play it’s tough to grow.

not sure 6.5 is a AAV of a #1 D. is he our #1? Yes.
- wcorvette

This is pretty much the bottom line.

Is he on par with some of the other legit #1 dmen? No. But he is the Flyers' best dman and thus was paid fairly.

Looks like he's well on his way to multiple Norris trophies and all star games.

I agree with this somewhat. Provy will only benefit from having better partners going forward.

Well, stats only tell part of a story that something happened in a certain situation. They don't tell the whole story nor wholly identify a player of themselves.

Maybe hitting the weights too hard? Have to compare his weigh-in this year to last. He packs on 10-12 lbs of muscle, he sort of gets a pass.

Pronger played behind Al McInnis. Weber played behind Timonen and once Timonen came to Philly, Sutter played behind Weber. Deajardins wasn’t the number one guy in Montreal. Chara wasn’t the guy with Islanders before going to Ottawa. Keith was on a bad Hawks team.

Provorov plays behind nobody and still has been fantastic up to last sesson’s first half. So what else do you need? Fact or stats?

The Pronger stuff is asinine, he didn't do all this at 21 years old and do not compare a seasoned vet Pronger to Provy. I don't think Provy will ever be Pronger but the comparison is so dumb.

Provorov gets 6 years of security but other than that, it's far more team friendly than player.

If you want a Provy comparison look at Marc-Edouard Vlasic, I think Provy has a somewhat higher ceiling.

You don't remember all those Flyer fans screaming from the rooftops that the Devils would regret taking Hischier? I'm pretty sure they were on the same buildings in New Jersey where Trump saw American musilms celebrating the World Trade Center being destroyed.

So the Flyers should have stolen the #1 pick that year to take the other guy over Patrick who was #2.

The Flyers have vastly overpaid in their most recent contract negotiation.

And... Patrick is the new Neuvirth.

Got it.

Yeah I thought about that but Provorov never struck me as the type to worry about security. More like he was supremely confident in his training and ability.

I mean I'm glad he took the deal, it just feels slightly like he caved some.

Either way....I"m happy he's in camp.

All the training and ability in the world cannot remove the risk of a career ending injury playing in a dangerous sport.
