Farabee taking reps with Couts and G

Rafcliffe and Frost with Jake

The idea of getting to see these two lines, even just in preseason.

They're going to have to draft their asses off if they want to build a deep team.
- hereticpride

They're going to have to do more than that in future years. They're going to be cap compliant using the LTIR exemptions for Horton and Clarkson. Both of those contracts expire after this season.

The Flyers missing out on this kid will seem just as stupid in retrospect as not offer sheeting Stamkos.

Enjoy mediocrity dammit.

You can't be talking about Mariner can you?

IF

expansion team and the new TV deal doesn’t drive the cap up as much as they think and hope......

So TK wants a longer term deal (let’s say 6 years) but his ask (AVV or maybe a no-trade requirement) is higher than the Flyers will go AND he isn’t willing to look at a bridge length (2-3 years).

When you’re not on the same page as the other party but both parties want to reach an agreement, then you look for the compromise. If no compromise can be found then you take a break. Don’t let things get ugly. Do a one year deal. Get it done ASAP and get to camp. If part of the issue is TK’s growth and/or defensive piece to his game, this is a way to show what he can do with a new coach and deeper team. Bet on himself and put in the work.

The TV deal expires after 21/22. The Leafs will have to make some kind of moves before then. Next season is a major issue for them.

The other aspect I see is they've got a lot of their cap spent on these 4 forwards. They're going to need to upgrade their d to truly contend and they don't have a ton of money to do that.

I doubt that a movement clause is the hang up. I don't see Konecny being willing to sign a one year deal but I could be wrong about that. I seriously doubt the Flyers would want to sign him to a one year deal.

You’re right, neither one wants one year, so it could work as a stop gap to get him playing (and neither side “wins”) and maybe the negotiation for a longer term deal can continue without a work stoppage. It’s a thought.

One more pro year gives Konecny arbitration rights. Giving him even more leverage next off season. You do know that Konecny is currently not eligible for a NTC or NMC?

I’d have to look, but yes I think arbitration isn’t as big a deal because if they don’t come to terms on their own by then, it won’t look promising for him to remain with the Flyers long term anyway.

Maybe they both compromise and I wake up to reading about TK’s new contract...yeah that could happen, possibly.

No, similar to many of these kind of deals, he has a chance to be that in 2 years. He could possibly even eclipse that in 4. Not so very different from what they just did with Provy.

Absolutely. Provorov may have 7 or 8 million dollar potential but it would almost be Irresponsible to give him that money before he’s earned it.

It’s a gamble. It’s how you save money in the cap era and keep your talented young players. With Provy, I would bet on him too.

I don’t like that TK wasn’t signed by training camp. It bothers me. People are right, he isn’t in good circumstances to hold out.

Arbitration is a big deal. It gives a player considerable leverage in the next negotiation.

I have full confidence in both our higher ceiling talents to the low. I’m not gonna poop on Robert Hagg, who in my opinion put it all together before Sanheim and Morin, with less to work with. I’m not gonna count out Patrick until we’ve seen him fully develop and playing with more talented wingers. Lindblom has already surpassed my expectations.

I’m actually more so down on Voracek who shows up every other season or every other game. I’m sure most will disagree and that’s fine. I know Hayes hasn’t played a game as a Flyer yet and I know he’s an above average player, it’s just the money really doesn’t sit well with me. We know JvR has 40 potential but he does tent to disappear from one game to the next. Don’t get me started on Brian Elliott, I believe there were better options on the open market. One word “injuries”.

Not in a case of complete impasse, when nothing but strained relations is left. I’m sure you have seen the stats on how often a player is traded following an arbitration ruling. Within one year or two. And deals are usually short in term.

They’re gonna have to trade Nylander eventually. Pretty sure they aren’t gonna want the headaches again. Maybe move him for dman. If they’re smart anyways. Which they aren’t
