Saad definitely and Shaw’s easily passable there.

I have no problem with them both playing on the 3rd line. Try to find some chem with the other guys you mentioned and potentially have a really solid top 9.

I like the idea of making the top 3 lines based around pairs.

Toew-Kane-LW
ADB-Strome-RW
Saad-Shaw-C

Fill in the blanks until you find the right combination. I wouldn't mind seeing The Drake (do I have to pay Ohio State for that "The?") start on Toews' left after the way that line played last year. I would start the season with Caggiula on line 1, Perlini on line 2, and Dach on line 3 for his 9-game trial.

On a related note, there are recent reports that Stan Makita had Stage III CTE which was revealed during his postmortem autopsy.

Yesterday's Camp Day 1 recap on the Athletic by Powers has a few notable quotes by Colliton giving a glimpse of his team philosophy:

"I want to have pace, want to execute at a high level and want to be competitive."

"The first thing, of course, is get everyone on the same page tactically, how we’re going to play and what’s expected of each other and habits and things and also who’s going to play on our team."

Another notable part of Powers's Day 1 recap is a possible glimpse of Colliton's defensive strategy:

The first half of the practices consisted of an assortment of drills. One of the longer drills Colliton spent time on was five-on-five defending in the defensive zone. The puck was knocked into a corner to the offensive players; the defenders sorted and picked up a man to cover and continued to defend in the zone.

Don't know how I feel about what seems to be a random sorting out of who is going to cover who on the fly. Could end up being just fine but could also end up disastrous. Is this part of that man-and-a-half defense?

For those that missed it (no formal announcement or fan fare around it), it's official in yesterday's Bowman press conference that Boqvist is going pro and will either be in Chicago or Rockford this year.

I like the idea of forward duos, too. Instead of Perlini on the 2nd line, my preference is Sikura or even Kubalik since they're both stronger 200-foot forwards with more consistent compete levels.

Admittedly in the minority on this, but if he earns a roster spot, I think Sikura could prove to be one of the best defensive forwards on the team after Toews.

And a few days ago Ohio State was officially denied the claim to trademark THE.

It could be similar to the recent Joe Maddon philosophy of “play like your hair is on fire.”

I'd be ok with either Sikura or Kubalik as top 6 options instead of Caggiula or Perlini. Perlini on line 2 could be a titanic-sized disaster on defense. My thought was based on play last year. Perlini played his best when he was with ADB and Strome, and Toews and Kane seem to play better when they have someone to do some of the dirty work.

As a Michigan fan, I'm happy that OSU was denied!

Every time I watch an NFL game and one of the players in the starting line up introductions says that he’s from “THE Ohio State” - I think to myself - “that’s really stupid.”

Agree on your points about those wing options. If Perlini can show consistent compete, then I would love for him to play with DeBrincat and Strome for the reason you stated.

Whoever the top 6 wingers and 3C are need to earn it. So if Perlini or say even Nylander or Saarela truly earn it, fine by me. IMO, earning it means being able to consistently compete in all zones, though, and those 3 don't fit the bill.

The 3C spot is my biggest worry, especially now with Dach in concussion protocol, not only because of any long-term concerns for Dach but also the opportunity for Colliton to miscast 4th liner Kampf as the 3C.

Perhaps - after time in practice with the process - it becomes less random and more defined while keeping the flexibility to account for ice position.

Just hope there is rhyme and reason to how players sort out and pick a man to cover. If there's a strategy to it and awareness of how to avoid break downs in coverage, then may end up working just fine.

From the Blackhawks live blog:

"First session of the morning is done. Team Red took a shootout win at the end of the scrimmage as Philipp Kurashev picked the top corner from the high slot."

Well... I can understand that perspective, however, regardless of my misgivings about the NFL, I’m still a fan of watching the games.

When JJ was here, he had to pull my posts concerning Stan, as I had a close friend's relative in the same facility as Stan's and they real life descriptions of the condition in his personal journey were not looked upon as blog worthy here and taken down...b/c the folks don't like their legends made mortal, and there is a certain amount of privacy they desire that realties do not want us to be part iof...

I can’t do it anymore. Over the course of about 6 years I went from die-hard to ambivalence to complete indifference. And it has everything to do with the game itself, and nothing to do with social/political issues.

Kane and Toews (and Bowman) on their playing until or after the big 4-0. Kane actually publicly addresses the summer of 2015 for the first time I can remember (other than the forced UND press conference).

https://chicago.suntimes....oews-40-year-old-versions

I personally cannot see Toews' pride allowing him to be happy in a 3rd or 4th line center role. Just don't feel he lives for the game like Kane does (and that's not a criticism of 19).
