Hmm, last we heard from de Haan was that he was ‘ahead of schedule’ and ‘planned’ to be ready for the start of camp.

And didn’t the Hawks say that Dach’s injury was ‘minor’ and shouldn’t keep him from the start of camp.

At least the McDonough spin machine is in mid-season form.

- scottak

All teams in all sports spin injuries exactly the same way.

McDonough is not the root of all evil in professional athletics.

SOUNDS LIKE A BIT MORE THAN BRUISING:

The Blackhawks released medical updates on three players as training camp opened on Friday at Fifth Third Arena.

Kirby Dach, who suffered a shoulder injury after taking a hard fall into the boards in the final game of the 2019 Traverse City Prospect Tournament on Tuesday, is in concussion protocol and isn't practicing with the team.

Calvin de Haan skated an hour before practice began, but did not participate in team drills as he recovers from shoulder surgery and a groin strain. The team expects him to be "out of the lineup" for 2-3 weeks.

Philipp Kurashev, who also skated before practice, is listed a day-to-day with a left knee/shoulder contusion. He sustained the injury on Tuesday in the Traverse City finale after being boarded by a Minnesota Wild prospect.

I agree...I am not sending my top prospects to a tournament to be abused and run by other teams "goon" propsects. Screw that!

Yeah, and Dach was at all the pre-season team hoopla, photo shoots, etc., of course.

Hoping that means it really is not serious, but can't concussions take time to show up?

- pdx2ord

It’s 4 days after the hit, and he’s still in protocol (or it’s a late-developing one, as you say).

Not a good sign in either case.

this will be a high octane and high interest camp...like others i suspect stanbow might make a move or two depending on how things shake...there is always a surprise or two with players during preseason. In my view Perlini, Nylander and Sikura are playing for their careers. They should have plenty incentive to show they got waht it takes.

Opens the question, at least for me, of when the NHL needs to step in and lay down the law with teams. One guy getting targeted and injured, that could just be an over-exuberant or jerky opposing player. Four (at least) guys targeted in a showcase tournament (nothing on the line), that's the coaching.
- pdx2ord

You going to suspend a junior bound guy in his league for an exhibition frogginess?

Sticky wicket.- the Minny bench should have been the place for a rebuke.

Dach can sit in Chicago a month exercising "re-habbing" and being part of the team before even playing a game of his tryout.

It might be best to take NOW slowly.

No, I actually had in mind the coaches. Once it went beyond the one incident and (at least) appeared to be deliberate targeting to injure, it's on them. And, that's where the discipline, if any, should fall.

100% agree on the stakes for those three

This is why we have Smith, Carpenter and Shaw. The kind of guys the Cubs will be looking for this off-season.

In the big picture those three hardly matter. What kind of years will the top six, goalies and defense have?

If I remember correctly, Kurashev and Dach were the only ones that were the result of egregious hits (and Kurashev was more that he lost balance and went into the wall awkwardly). The initial comments from the team were "immediate" thoughts coming right after the game and without full evaluation.

maybe but I was talking personally about them and their careers. If one or more can play up to their talent and ability then it does impact the big picture.

Very loud sigh

Ben Pope

Bowman says “it’ll be close” for De Haan being healthy in time for season opener.

Says there’s no timetable determined currently re: Dach’s concussion.

Does that all but seal Dach's fate? Or, do they still give him the 9 games assuming he's recovered?

They aren't saying it but I think no way he plays Juniors again. Getting roughed up in the Tournament is the kind of "Big Boy" experience he needs getting ready for the NHL and he won't get that in Juniors, but still could get injured. They will stash him on IR before sending him down.

They're not commenting (as is proper) on reason. Is another blow to their team.

Yea, BuffDaddy had one of the best hits of the 2010 playoffs when he put Pronger on his keister. I LOVED the "what if" parody someone did of that hit based off the "what if" moments NHL Network was doing.

That hit on Pronger was awesome. I also fondly remember him scoring in Vancouver and taunting the crowd along the boards on the way back to the bench.

Corey Crawford was asked if splitting the starts this season will help him stay fresher long-term, and he basically said...no.

"Personally, I feel better when I play more."

Going to be a difficult balancing act for the coaches to find a split that gets best out of both without stirring up locker room drama
