IMO, a parent's job is to raise their kids to be independent.
Providing advice is great. Establishing a relationship that your kids openly come to you for advice is great.
My advice to my kids as they get older will be too make sure they ask good questions and ultimately get what they want; i won't be making decisions for them.
It's obvious p.marner is a pathetic piece of poop bully; not a parent. Unfortunately, marner is still a child that can't make decisions for himself, despite being a grown ass man. - Tumbleweed
Yes to all of this. And it should be obvious to most...
And for the last sentence; you lot obviously knows more than most

Anyone who knows Paul or has a kid play hockey in the same age group knows how (frank)ed he is
A friend of mine had a kid who played with Marner for a few years. Another that had a kid that would play against him. He was the type of parent back in the day that would yell at other parents and their kids.
And he makes fake twitter accounts to argue with 12 year olds on if Mitch is better than McDavid. - Santo_44
My dad was my coach for a good part of my minor hockey life. No tougher coach in all of my playing career. Guy was an ass...lol. Best dad ever, though.
My daughters at an age where I cannot offer unsolicited advice - if I do, it just pushes her away. I have to wait for her to come to me, and bite my tongue until she does. - Woderwick
You see the video Leafs posted on social media of Training Camp?
The quick glimpse of Matthews staring into the camera with that beautiful stache was (frank)ing awesome lmao. If you haven't seen it, its defintely worth checking out.

I am too drunk to make sense of this....but i think it means nylander's caphit of ~10 last year was actually the number to get to 6.9 for the year.
But because of ltir, if marner signs during the year, marner's gross prorated caphit cannot be > total ltir space of ~10.5m
What's the final word, john roberts? - Tumbleweed
Right. The principal factors are term, cost, and date of signing. I have a spreadsheet on my work PC that I was toying with - but the numbers are fairly drastic fairly quick. For instance, it was something like a $1m difference after 2 weeks (meaning if you signed him at $9.5, it would be a $10.5m hit in year 1, and a $9.2m hit in subsequent years). I'd have to plop the numbers in it again to be sure, but it was roughly something like that.

Love me some smart Irish lawyers.
It basically means that every day after Oct 2 the amount that MM eventually signs for becomes a larger cap hit. I think given the Leafs situation with LTIR, their cap space available and the need to have a bit of space for injuries/trades that it means both sides know that the potential to get a deal shrinks after Oct 2.
I'd only add that for MM's side he wants a short deal (smaller AAV) so he may not blink. The option of longer term deals will be the first to die.

That's interesting stuff. Leafs seem to have about 10.5 so if hypothetically MM wants nothing less than 3 x 9 his camp will know that the Leafs will have trouble offering that after about 3 weeks into the season.
