Nothing wrong with opinion and advice from parents. In fact I'd be pissed if I didn't get advice from mine ...and my kids seem to like mine.

The smoke up here (and there is a lot of it) is that Paul Marner has an extensive history of being the operating mind in his son's life.

I have no personal knowledge but we're all 1 or 2 Kevin Bacons away from a bad Paul Marner hockey-dad story.

But just a thought, a very good friend of mine was forced into his fathers company at 18 years old. He always wanted to go to school but was guilted into it.

He made good money, 100K a year by the time he was 30. But he hated his job, he couldn’t enjoy himself after work. He was a completely different person than the guy a grew up with.

He quit at 30 and started an electrical apprenticeship, makes a (frank) ton less. But he’s happy as pig in poop, and kicks himself for not standing up for himself at 18.

You don’t control your kids life, advice is awesome. But you have to realize you aren’t always right...I don’t believe controlling your kid is the answer. Of course unless they are literally kids.

Continue your parenting style as you please, your son is 23 though....just remember that.

The whole AA mess a year or two ago. Held out until hour 13 and the season started without him. Wings fans kind of turned on him for a hot minute until he started to really put up points. That was the only thing that saved his PR.

Everyone’s still pretty high on him. He’s posted one of the best AHL D+1 campaigns in recent memory. He can shoot the puck and I think he and Veleno will be dangerous together.

I expect us to call Zadina up midway through the season. Next year I expect a full season of him. Will he be Ovechkin? No. I do expect a regular 30-30 guy with his skill set.

I'm gonna take a pass on that. I like hockey, but to be honest I really don't like hockey culture. I grew up in it and had enough of it by age 15. Plus, the whole Marner thing just seems sooo....millenial with dad stepping in and 'snowplowing' for his kid.

Dubas should have never caved and signed that Sack of poop Nylander...He should have let Nylander sit out the entire season, and then signed both Nylander and Marner to team friendly deals in July. He (frank)ed up. Now he needs to be strong and just let Marner sit the whole season. Subsequently I hope the other GM's follow suit as well

IMO, a parent's job is to raise their kids to be independent.

Providing advice is great. Establishing a relationship that your kids openly come to you for advice is great.

My advice to my kids as they get older will be too make sure they ask good questions and ultimately get what they want; i won't be making decisions for them.

It's obvious p.marner is a pathetic piece of poop bully; not a parent. Unfortunately, marner is still a child that can't make decisions for himself, despite being a grown ass man.

There is a difference between making decisions with parents and letting them run your career.

Agents know the cba, they know how to negotiate. Parents emotional. Players are best to let their agents handle the work.
