The problem here is yes a parents advice is valuable when you're explaining to your child that maybe 3k a year raise is good but maybe not worth leaving a happy and comfortable situation you're in now (for example)

Its alot different if you're telling your son youre better than 77 million in 7 years to play hockey, making you one of the highest paid contracts in the sports history, playing in the city you grew up in unlike most nhlers.

Agreed. I'd tell him you're one of the highest paid players in the league. And if youre happy playing for the team sign the deal.

If he he plans to play in Switzerland and gets injured...leverage gone. Whether my son gets 11million over 7 years or 12 million over 5 years, I'll sleep well at night knowing my son will be set for life financially.

As a father I'd be more worried at this point not how much he makes ,cause I know he'll make millions, but whether he gets into drugs, gambling etc.

A friend of mine had a kid who played with Marner for a few years. Another that had a kid that would play against him. He was the type of parent back in the day that would yell at other parents and their kids.

And he makes fake twitter accounts to argue with 12 year olds on if Mitch is better than McDavid.

My dad was my coach for a good part of my minor hockey life. No tougher coach in all of my playing career. Guy was an ass...lol. Best dad ever, though.

My daughters at an age where I cannot offer unsolicited advice - if I do, it just pushes her away. I have to wait for her to come to me, and bite my tongue until she does.

The thing about advice is as a parent you could be completely wrong but at least the kid has the choice to figure it out for themself.

But choosing for them or guilting them
into something is always a bad idea. You could be very wrong and you don’t want your child to resent you for making them choose the wrong decision.

Also when they are above 20 it’s their (frank)ing life, just hope you raised them well

The whole AA mess a year or two ago. Held out until hour 13 and the season started without him. Wings fans kind of turned on him for a hot minute until he started to really put up points. That was the only thing that saved his PR.
