If it were my son, I’d leave it between him and his agent who knows best. I’m not even speaking to this instance, just a general statement.
- RickJames77

You've spend 20 hours a week and a lot of money for 10 years to give your kid the best possible chances - and when he's about to sign his most important contract (probably ever), you would just step back and have NO opinion...
I for one wouldn't!

btw - my 23 y/o son studies computer science in a great University - 'unfortunately' he needs my advice VERY often...

Fine, what about 3 years 9 aav 11.5M final salary. Would you all be ok with that? something in that range seems fair for everyone.

It’s not ideal, but you won’t get that. Idk. I don’t think I’d be too pissed with this one, which is unfortunately how I look at contracts. It’s either that’s ok or that contract blows! You rarely get that steal contract.

Yeah but does your son need to make less money to keep a bunch of middle aged and angry fans happy?

imagine how disingenuous of a parent you have to be to hold over your son’s head all of the sacrifices you made, both financially and time wise, in order for his dream to come true.

Not saying this is happening, just rumors, but still

- RickJames77

Right!!!

Play for your hometown team, team you grew up cheering for...... But 2mil overpayment isn't enough. They done wronged you by not including elc bonuses.

If he's not careful he's gonna (frank) himself out of a lot of money. 11x7 is an insane amount of money. There isn't a way that he can sign a bridge and then sign for like 5 years and be equal to that 11x7, let alone exceed it which I'm sure they want/think they can.

Then again Werenski came in much lower than I anticipated.

The problem here is yes a parents advice is valuable when you're explaining to your child that maybe 3k a year raise is good but maybe not worth leaving a happy and comfortable situation you're in now (for example)

Its alot different if you're telling your son youre better than 77 million in 7 years to play hockey, making you one of the highest paid contracts in the sports history, playing in the city you grew up in unlike most nhlers.

I think bobby Mac said the Leafs had tabled a bridge at something close to 9 AAV and long term close to 11.

Less meaning 11 million a year? I'm sure my son can learn to live...somehow.

You sound like the type of parent who wants their child to follow a certain path in life because he owes you something and you think that's what they need to do instead of letting your child choose his own path.

Offer advice and step away.

"This place" is "this place" because of people like you.

You've made this mistake many times before.

Go back and re-read the post I replied to and maybe you'll understand where the confusion lies.

Provorov signed 6 years

Guys, let’s maybe not critique parenting when we know nothing of someone’s circumstances. I’ll stay out of it from here on out.
