How old are you ?

Yes, your parents can help you with a decision but at his age he’s on his own. If his father is guilting him into listening to him he’s a pretty bad father.

Every parent makes sacrifices and you don’t ask for anything in return.

- Santo_44

Sounds like none of you guys had parents driving you to games and training 5 times a week... Of course he feels he should listen to his dad. Imo it's the natural thing to do when your dad bleeds hockey and has sacrified A LOT for you.

Like what?

Who else is he getting advice from? I’d imagine the guy he’s going to be paying millions in commission is giving him advice. I’d (frank)ing hope so if he is paying him.

And his father? Anyone who knows this guy in Toronto knows what he is all about it’s not a secret.

If he turned down 11 million for 7 years, I dont need to know the details just the bottom line.

Then again you're the twat who acts like he knows everything so this just got rather ironic.

Back to the insults for no reason. Big surprise.

imagine how disingenuous of a parent you have to be to hold over your son’s head all of the sacrifices you made, both financially and time wise, in order for his dream to come true.

Not saying this is happening, just rumors, but still

- RickJames77

The poor kid wont be making 77 million over 7 years to pay them back. Ofc they should need to look after him!

I just finished saying he should be listening to his agent and you argued he should be listening to his parents cause he's 20 (no he's 22 actually) and they paid for his hockey and raised him...... Then you turn around and say doesn't he have an agent.

This place

"This place" is "this place" because of people like you.

You've made this mistake many times before.

Go back and re-read the post I replied to and maybe you'll understand where the confusion lies.

If it were my son, I’d leave it between him and his agent who knows best. I’m not even speaking to this instance, just a general statement.

He needs to take control of his life. Meddling parents can sometimes be more about themselves than about their child. Ask jack Johnson.

Don't think it's about the money. It's about being recognized as the best player on the team. That means getting paid the most, being in the Captaincy conversation, most ice time, on the ice in all key situations, pick of the locker stall, first choice of seat in the back of the bus, window seat in first class on all flights and no one else can use the same washroom once Mitch picks it, front of the line at Disney World, first crack at fish on a charter, allowed to double dip, no need for dinner reservations and gets best table, Voss water on the bench and no sharesies, Ten Voss shampoo in the shower and no sharesies, most and best interviews when it counts, expects to be the first to hold any future trophy Leafs win, always gets first and last piece of banana cream pie - no wait - he gets his own banana cream pie - no sharesies.

I hope your parents weren’t/aren’t this involved with your life at his age.

Just an example....Don’t be the type to give in to your parents demands to work for/eventually own the family business. You are in control of your life.

Marner will be making 77 million. More than enough to re pay his parents and give them a luxurious life.

Yes. You're an idiot. Sometimes the brutal truth seems insulting when you're in denial of how wrong and pathetic you are. It's cool. Blame me. You'll still be you when you wake tomorrow regardless of who you make the bad guy to be. Despite the fact you act like female genitalia to everyone on a daily basis. Boohoo you're the victim though right?

3 years 8m AAV, 10.5M salary final season. Something like that, get it done.

It’s more than fair IMO

- RickJames77

Now that we know 11 was offered no way the final year is any less than that.

You sound like the type of parent who wants their child to follow a certain path in life because he owes you something and you think that's what they need to do instead of letting your child choose his own path.

Offer advice and step away.

I've been holding back mentioning this because it's all smalltown hearsay, but Paul marner went to high school with several of my dad's buddies, and there have been numerous rumors regarding Paul's behaviour around the team. Now keep in mind these are old farts talkin poop, but I heard that when mitch became a leaf... families get discounts on jerseys and he bought about 100 marner jerseys and started selling them online full price... I also heard that when mitch was relagated to the 4th line that Paul stormed into babcocks office yelling... Babcock yelled back and threw him out saying that if he tried that again he'd be banned from the rink. I believe Paul is now no longer invited to the "dad's trip".

There are several other things that have nothing to do with hockey so I won't say those... and keep in mind these may be exaggerations... just thought it was interesting considering the recent negotiations....
