McAvoy’s camp is likely ready to take the last best offer, after both comparable players signed team-friendly deals. McAvoy is a younger and more dynamic player than Provorov, but has more still to prove after struggling with injuries in his first two seasons. The young defenseman is a better fit for Werenski’s recent contract structure than the deal just signed by Provorov, but he and the Bruins now have to options to consider.

My understanding is that the #Canucks offered Brock Boeser a six-year deal worth $42M ($7M AAV) around the draft and were turned down.
That might explain the stalemate today because now the agent *has* to do better for his client, & the Canucks have spent cap space on UFAs.
If I am Brock and were to sign a 3 year, 18 million dollar deal, I would be looking at 5 5 and 8.
Brings the qualifying offer, for the next contract, up a couple million.
Or, at least that is how I think it works.
Just to recap the RFA's so far
Meier 4 years 6 AAV
Werenseki 3 years 5 AAV
Provorov 6 years 6.75 AAV
Morrissey 8 years 6.25 AAV
Kevin Fiala 2 years 3 AAV
Pavel Zacha 3 years 2.25 AAV
Adrian Kempe 3 years 2 AAV
Pavel Buchnevich 2 years 3.25 AAV
23 year old Sam Bennett 2 years 2.55 AAV
Samuel Girard 7 years 5 AAV

The Cap thing is bullsh1t. With a 23 man roster they could sign him today for 7 mil. If they were desperate they could go to a 21 man roster and pay him close to 9 mil. We are talking about a paper shuffle.
I have heard Canucks did offer him 7 mil long term. I also heard they want to pay him 6 mil , that is where they feel comfortable.
This is not unique to Boeser only there are other GMs standing pat telling the players and their agents that their numbers are stupid.
I think their is a good chance BB will only be signed after the season starts . It is not like he has never missed a season for the Canucks first game . It will get resolved so I am not the least bit worried. I am curious to see who steps up and takes Boesers spot. Once he realizes the team can function without him and he is not receiving a paycheck he will come around

Even with Roussel on LTIR, VAN has at least 15 forwards on NHL deals and may only be able to keep 13 because the cap is expected to be tight. Might be a lot of Utica shuffling. Top 6 on D seems set, no? Edler/Myers-Hughes/Tanev-Benn/Stecher, I would think.

If Boeser signs, Miller-Horvat-Pearson could be a second line. Canucks will be eager to see if Virtanen and Baertschi take a step this season and where they fit in, although one would suspect Leivo and Sutter should secure top 9 spots. Louii Eriksson? 🤷♂️
