Hard to believe anyone wouldn’t like this deal. Did he struggle last year? Yeah, he did, but any D man playing the minutes, facing the matchups he did, and often with subpar goaltending behind him, is going to struggle.
He has been used as a #1 Dman since he was 19, and overall he’s done a decent job. He now has 3 centers playing in front of him who are all solid to great defensively and he’ll have a smart, experienced partner playing with him. And the goaltender behind him should be solid from day one of the season.
He likely won’t put big points as Ghost and Sanheim should, and deservingly so, get the pp time. But he’s going to match up against the opponents best lines, be on the top PK pairing and probably give you 24 or so minutes per game.
He is absolutely worth 6.75 million per over 6 years. |

Fletch must've come in pretty low if this is what they settled on. Honestly it's a great deal. Good job Fletch. - hereticpride
Definitely seems like the case. |

I was calling for 7 yrs 7m per so a fair contract for Provy.
Glad to have him in camp day one. |
|
|
|
Excellent! Good for Provy and good for the Flyers. A n d..training camp tomorrow! All those who start camp on-time have the best opportunity for success. It’s kind of like college when you’re late turning in a paper. -10 the first day and once completed, you have to negotiate the rest of the penalty depending on eventually length of lateness and believability of excuse.
TK just get it done ASAP and get to camp! At one point, the TK camp was rumored to be “close.” If we are still talking about this next week, I will be mildly concerned. A hold out will do him, the team and the fans no good. Although there’s a handful of former 1st round picks that might be slightly excited. |

Phenomenal deal. Less than expected (was expecting 8mil)...and not a bridge - Hckygoalie31
I have a real hard time understanding how anyone was expecting an 8M AAV. That was never going to happen. |

I wouldn’t call it a steal. Provorov did quite well for himself. He was asked to play a lot of minutes and he did for a lottery team that leaned on him heavily due to the club’s deficiencies. He’s still a young player with a near 7 mil cap number that has not shown that he can qb a power play with much success in this league. He is solid in his own end and has a decent shot but he doesn’t get creative offensively and has to bounce back from a bad, concerning year. It appears to be a fair deal - Just5
Not every top defenseman on your team has to be a PP QB. He showed in the 17/18 season how well he can play offensively, filling lanes coming late. He's never going to be flashy offensively or a big point producer.

He plays a poop ton of tough minutes, and didn't he lead all defenseman in the league in goals two years ago? I'm not really worried about him being the QB on the PP. That's really G's job more than anyone anyway.
If this signing isn't a steal it's damn near close. The way contracts keep rising this average cap hit will be an average 2nd pairing player type contract in no time. |

That's a steal if he develops as planned and not too painful if he just turns out to be pretty average.
Seems like a reasonable deal. I'm not sure why they couldn't reach this sooner but I'm glad he'll be in camp.
Now we'll see if they turn around trade Hagg like some suspected. - hereticpride
You should feel shame. Very much same for bring up a Hagg trade. Shame |

Well....if you hear enough 8-10mil rumors...
You know what they say...where there's smoke...
I think Werenski's deal might have made Provy's camp kinda take a step back. |

It's a slight overpay for a year or two, but down the road if he gets back to where he was and improves even further, it's a really good deal for the Flyers. Provorov gets some security. It's a deal that benefits both sides. It's a straight no nonsense deal. No salary loading with no signing bonuses. I can't understand why this took so long.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree. Provorov's agent even said that the rumors out there were false. Many were talking 8M a year in here. That was never going to happen.

My guess is his agent wanted to drag it out as long as possible to make sure no money got left on the table. Who knows. |

Their will be $12 million in signing bonus money as a part of the deal, according to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun |

I get you but we are only talking about 8 D guys. At one point I was thinking that they would never carry 8 but some folks in here made sense to me about that. Even Bill said it is not a bad option for the Flyers. Plus injuries always seem to pile up on the blue line. Hagg is still young and many say that he is what he is. I just can’t believe that at his age he is not going to keep improving. But if someone gets traded in my mind it is Hagg. I don’t want to see Morin go. Just think he is a total freak and one day Morin will be that bottom 4 PK crease clearing monster. |

That was the ballpark of the initial ask for long-term, supposedly, but neither side realistically expected to close there. Gander declined Hextall's attempt to negotiate last summer and preferred to wait until this summer. They may not admit it but the Werenski bridge deal helped set the AAV range on a longer term deal for Provorov. |

We'll see. CapFriendly has McKenzie as the source with no signing bonus money in the deal.

Probably but that's just a number Gander was throwing to Hextall to test the waters. Never a realistic possibility. The 7M salary for Werenski probably helped set the market. I think a similar bridge deal would've been better for Provorov but I'm glad hs signed this deal.

This deal is a great deal for the team. I fully expect Provy to out play this contract by then end of year 2.

Like tomahawk has said before... he’s jay bowmeester. A 22 year old jay bowmeester in today’s nhl is absolutely worth that deal. Its fair value but I’m not doing cartwheels |

If Provorov plays like we all know he can, it's absolutely a bargain. I don't think you could have asked for a better deal in terms of both term and money. |
