Both had won awards, put up more assists, more points and/or gone deep in the playoffs.
What other player scored 40 and got hurt twice? The whole "goals 5 on 5" criteria was never a criteria until Leafs fans began trying to justify the price tag. - JohnFergusonJr
I guess you missed the post earlier where Konecny's agent is negotiating his next contract by that, eh?
I guess it's only Leafs fans and one actual player agent. |

I think if we are paying guys based on project and what they should do in the future - which is exactly what is happening - Then a 94 point winger at 22 should easily be considered a 110 point winger by age 25. That would put him in the top 5-7 players points wise in the league. - aminnes
That's probably what they're arguing.
Nylander got paid on potential. Mathews got paid on potential. Marner wants to be paid on potential.
UFAs use to get overpaid for what they once did. RFAs are starting to ask to be paid for what they're going to do.
A lot of RFAs looked at MacKinnon and Hall and said to themselves, "I'm not getting underpaid to over-perform for years until I become a UFA". |

You mean when Marner was on the third line and 4th line and Nylander was playing with AM. And then last year Nylander played not the 3rd and 4th and poop the bed. Yes.
Nylander with AM - 60 points 20 goals. Marner with JT - 94 points 26 goals. - aminnes

You know who played with Matthews and who played with Bozak?
Yeah, you know.
You also know who scored a career high in goals because of sweet passes and plays that created a lot more open net tap ins too. - JohnFergusonJr
You vastly overestimate how many of those Tavares got. I also want you to go look at how many of Tavares goals Marner didn't assist on. |

ignore 5 on 5.
he is 5th in the nhl in total goals scored over the last 3 years. despite missing time. - Tumbleweed
So maybe 5th highest AAV would make more sense than 3rd. Even though he's actually at #1 if you look at the actual dollar amount he's getting this year.
There's more to the game than goals, being healthy is also important. |

It's like some people completely ignore that Babcock did that exact same thing with Nylander. |

It was quite a few. Marner did a lot of work to get Tavares the spot he wanted. Marner did a lot of work to get Tavares / Matthews the shots they wanted on the PP too. |

Yup. And Marner says what's good for the goose is good for the gander. And I don't blame hime one bit. Imagine he takes 9.5 and scores 110 points the following year while other guys making more than him sitting in 15th, 25th or whatever. I can see where he i coming from. And again, if the club had not already paid the other two based on what they may do, this would be less of an issue. I've said all along, when they signed JT it should have been known that no one was getting more than him, and he should have been made captain to solidify it like Lidstrom in Detroit. |

Yes, and he is the one saying that Marner gifted Tavares with bushels of empty net tap-ins and single-handedly raised Tavares' career highs. I told him to look up the stats. |

Umm you mean when willie was with AM and marner played parts on 4th, 3rd and line?

That's probably what happened and that's why they're still negotiating.
If the "report" AKA leaked information, is true and the offer in June was 7 or 8 and 11 AAV, that was probably the Leafs way of getting Marner's agent to avoid testing the RFA waters. They were probably worried that he was going to get an offer sheet. And Marner's agent probably thought the same which is why they probably declined and wanted to see what kind of offer sheet they could get. July and August have come and gone and that offer sheet never materialized. But the majority of the RFAs didn't sign a deal either.
Now at the start of camp, Dubas probably leaked some information to get the talks going a little faster, put some fan pressure on Marner's agent and the offer is probably lower (9ish) and Marner's agent is probably saying, we want that original offer to still stand.
So basically, right back where they started, one side asks for 11, the other side says 9, in the end, they end up somewhere at 10. |

probably. $10.5M/year was the number for 5 years that made more sense to me.
10.5M x 7 is a million overpay for mitch and plenty of money for what he has accomplished.

That's bullpoop, he's got a good shot. Not like he had 5 goals and 85 assists. He did still score 26 with 11.2 SH%. |
