When he’s on, he’s nasty. When he’s off, it’s atrocious. Kinda like Fleury, and every other goalie in the NHL.
- j.boyd919

He's definitely not an "Ice in his veins" type goalie. Dude feeds off the crowd. When he gets amped up and the crowd is rocking, he's stellar. It's when everything slows down and is calm that he starts making dumb mistakes and overplaying stuff.

Wait, you agree with that statement?!?! It was a joke dude.

Aren’t they 2-2 against Trotz coached teams? Pretty sure 2 of those wins went on to win the cup, no?
- j.boyd919

50% chance of winning then.

Having two of the best in the world in Crosby and Malkin (even though Malkin isn't getting much respect around the league in the last 3-4 years), I'd say Trotz does a really good game plan against those guys.

Always comes back to goaltending with this team. It's been about 8 years of question marks in net.

I have a bit of faith in Mrazek though. He proved he can at least be an average starter.

Most goalies are rollercoasters. It comes down to how drastic the peaks and valleys are along with the timing of those peaks and valleys.

Would you be willing to give $7M+ to Murray if you were Carolina?

No.

I don't think they'll ever spend that much on a goaltender.

$6+? sure, but not that much.

In 3 of those series Trotz had the greatest goal scorer in NHL history and a top 10 center in the NHL in Nicklas Backstrom. Oh and Braden Holtby who’s a (frank)ing stud. You’re acting like Trotz didn’t have elite talent too (sans the Islanders series).

I'm glad we took Malkin in the 2004 draft. Very happy he fell to us. No kidding.

Barzal is a stud and he’s fun as poop to watch but he ain’t no Ovie or Backstrom, yet. Kids still young though.

I like what JR is doing with the Pens. It’s my belief that JR, coaching and probably the core players had a meeting and identified that win by overwhelming offence is not going to be viable going forward.
The thing I remember most from the 2016 cup team was the relentless team defence. When I look at the current group JR assembled that’s what I see.

Hall of fame GM doing hall of fame team building.

He's so skilled. He would be fun to watch playing with Sid or Geno.

LOL Man Geno was THE top dog in the 2008-2009 playoffs. He was just above everyone by a good margin. He's been so good for most of his carreer and I'd say if he were canadian, he'd get more respect. Not saying he doesn't get any!

Oh for sure. He’s probably too 3 Russian players of all time. Federov, Geno, and Ovi in no particular order.

I like it too. I like how young and yet experienced we are as a whole. We have wheels at the wing and are savvy in the middle of the ice.

The feeling I get is that people in Russia respect more Kovalchuk and Ovechkin before Malkin and Datsyuk.

Bure, Mogilny are a bit below those guys IMO.

No way on Kovi over Datsyuk. I forgot about him for a second. Bure and Mogilny were so fun to watch growing up. Those dude had wheels in an era not known for them.

Did anyone read the Rossi article on the Athletic?
https://www.pensburgh.com...ionship-nhl-mike-sullivan

Pensburgh had some snippets from it and it talked about Malkin and his relationship with Sullivan and Kessel.
I'm not a fan of Rossi, but wondering how much is true and how much is exaggerated.

How long have you been quoting "Old School" not realizing that Blue is the name of the character and not just part of the phrase?

The dude is a (frank)ing clown. I don’t put any stock in anything Rossi writes.
