Dach and Boqvist are scratched from today’s game against the Blues. Clearly the team and coaching staff have already identified these two as complete busts.

Has anyone tried putting together the AHL lines given the big club is stocked like a trout farm? Just tried and the Hogs are going to have some decisions to make and/or Stan can flip pieces towards the end of preseason. They’re LOADED!
- Assman22

Nylander/Kurashev/Sikura
Hagel/Entwistle/Reese
Saarela/Highmore/Wedin
Soderlund/Hakkarainen/Quenneville

Fortin, Nilsson, Noel, and Knott left hanging. This squad could beat a few NHL teams here and there imo. Has any club ever won both the Stanley and Memorial Cups in the same season?

They don't want to wear down their 1C and #1D - long season ahead.

So CapFriendly says the Hawks have $2.4MM in cap with two forwards left to complete a 23 man roster.

The blanks will be filled in by two guys in the league minimum and under category, so I expect a lot of competition for those remaining spots. That is a good thing.

Perlini's team friendly deal made that possible, and now he, Nylander, Kurashev, Kubalik, Sikura, and Dach can battle for the spots.

Challenge I see is that no one stands out as a 1LW or a 2RW, which IMHO are the areas of greatest need, assuming the new duct taped together D acquisitions stay taped together.

Trending up for sure - just a matter of how far up.

Rarely, but I didn't know you have sources in realms other than hockey and advanced muscle addition.

I love the addition of Pavelski. It gives the Stars a 2nd line behind the Sequin-Benn line. BUT....I still don't see Dallas's forward group any better than the hawks...and in fact, I like ours a little better.

I think Dallas is right there in the hunt for a WC along with us. Injuries, goaltending and a few breaks may be all that separates us. I think we are in for a close, hard battle with 3-4 teams for those 7th and 8th spots this year. But, I feel we have as good a chance as most of them.

- hawk35

Agreed they would be better if they had Dylan Sikura. I haven't seen any Sikura love for over a week now.

>>>All signs point to Perlini's camp blinking first to sign that deal. Perlini didn't have a lot of leverage in the situation. Also, I would want to sign ASAP with the season approaching if I were Brendan with the amount of competition amongst the forward group that looms near.

My take on the contract is this – the Hawks are better with a $874k / AAV Perlini than they are without.

The former 12th overall pick is just 23 years old and while he'll need to fight for his spot every day in the lineup, that's a good thing. He's also playing for his next contract, so if that doesn't light a fire in his belly then nothing will.<<<

Agree on all points. No way the hawks were going 1.5 mil or above. Yet less than a mil is surprising. Why didn't he ask for a trade? In the end with his numbers and play over his first 3 years and where the hawks are...he had no chance of getting more than 1 year contract.

This a is great deal for both him and the hawks. He goes out and grabs a top 6 or 9 spot and plays a consistent game he will get his 4 year plus 12 mildo contract. Or the hawks are done with him and moves on with Anthony Duclairs of the NHL world.

- bogiedoc

He already was traded, Hawks held leverage there too. Thing is, if he puts up another mediocre 15 goals what he'll get in arbitration will be too much for Hawks. If he has a good year what he'll get in arbitration will be too much for Hawks. Hope would be now for him to be good and flip him when he's worth more unless he agreed to a team friendly multi year deal.

Agreed. That’s real nice. If I was TB, I would’ve swapped Point for Werenski given their strengths/weaknesses. BJ’s would’ve jumped on that too.

Here's a stab at a Hogs lineup:

Hagel - Highmore - Saarela
Nylander - Quenneville - Kurashev
Soderlund - Nilsson - Wedin
Entwistle - Johnson - Hakkarainen

Extra: Versteeg, T Sikura, Knott, Fortin, Noel

Dahlstrom/Holm - Boqvist
Gilbert - Carlsson
Beaudin - Krys

Extra: Tuulola

Delia
Lankinen

This projection is expecting D Sikura and Kubalik to make the Blackhawks roster along with Dach and Perlini. If Dach gets sent back to Saskatoon, then I would expect Highmore to be in the mix for a spot on the big club.

I know it's your guess, but I really like to think that Highmore gets more time with the hawks. I like him a lot & what he brings, I'm just worried about injuries.

I watched both games this past weekend.

I thought Dach was awesome against the Wings, but as from my posts I was pretty hard on him against the Leafs. He did a lot of standing around against Toronto and did not seem overly into the game, and then he let his frustrations boil over in the 3rd. I am hoping this is a great learning experience for him because if we are counting on him to be our 3rd line center, he cannot be undisciplined like that and he needs to be engaged every shift if he is going to play in the NHL as an eighteen year old. One thing that he must get better at is faceoffs, hopefully the Captain works with him on the draws. On the power play, he was not even taking draws in the 3rd period. However, for all the negative against Toronto, Kirby showed how dominant he could be versus the Wings. He and his line were dangerous every shift and Dach scored a beauty breakaway goal that game as well. I understand there are going to be growing pains for #77, but I am expecting a lot if he is going to be in the NHL this coming season. NHL teams got a glimpse of how you might be able to play him right now, take away his time and space and be physical with him. Like I said, hopefully it is a great learning experience for the kid because the NHL will be a whole lot tougher and physical against him.

- ChicagoHope

This is why the AHL would be the perfect place for him, to learn this part of the game that he isn't getting much of in juniors. The NHL really needs to get that agreement revised so that they can send certain players to the AHL when they clearly need to be there. Probably will never happen, as I understand where the CHL leagues are coming from...they don't want to lose their best players just because they were drafted by an NHL team.

No love for Beaudin in Traverse City? I thought he looked like a solid 2 way defender that could spend some time in Chicago this season.

I think Kane likes to play with a left handed shooting center so that they can pass and receive passes from Kane on their forehand.

I like Highmore's game, too. Endless motor, fast, defensively aware, some offensive skills. Not physical but can bring an agitating style. Could be a great 4th liner, maybe even more skilled than Kampf, IMO.

In a few years, Reese Johnson could be the heir apparent to replace Kampf if he continues to trend up. Not as fast as Highmore but really strong defensively as well as on faceoffs and the forecheck. Agitating and physical game as well.
