I also think it would take a 10 minute phone call to move Girgensons or Larsson as well even if it’s for a 6th or 7th round pick as a team would value their experience for depth. I would think they would both be claimed if placed on waivers. Even though Rochester is at the vet limit I’m sure Sobotka would opt for Europe and other vets could be loaned to other AHL clubs (Moulson as an example).

Maybe. I think the bigger issue at this late stage is the Cap, especially for a guy more likely to put up 15 pts and not be that great of a shut-down forward...yes both flip the ice nicely, but there defensive accumen isn't a got to have attribute for either. 8 think you can find asxeffective but cheaper options.
Who knows.
I do know the roster isn't done completely...I'm not expecting too much in terms of moves. Waivers might be the way to go as you mentioned.

Edit:
I should say I find it more likely the youngins will mostly be sent down/back until moves are made at the TDL, when guys like Bogo, Scandella, Girgs, Larry get moved then.

This is very possible, I see exactly where you are coming from. Let’s see what happens in camp.

I firmly believe asplund and malone or smith can do the same thing at a fraction of the price

what I am more concerned about, are the best 9 guys up front in training camp going to make the team

or will some get sent down to see sobotka, okposo and tage get top 9 minutes

- homiedclown

Based on what though?
I’m fairly certain u don’t get Amerks games down there in Florida

And even if we saw them doing great in those roles in the AHL, we don’t know how that will translate to the NHL?

Didn’t that Larsson-Girgs line have something like a 75% defensive zone start?
That’s too much to ask for rookies coming up from the AHL imo

If the Sabres wanna develop Asplund, etc to take over those roles, then we should be calling them up throughout this season & putting them in those situations to see how they do
Maybe 1 at a time to play with Larsson & Girgs

That’s probably gonna take some injuries though,
bc Okposo & Sobatka

PS. Have u heard any info at all on what they plan to do with Sobatka?
It would be great if we could get him outta here somehow
But i also think he could be decent playing a defensive role on that 4th line if we’re stuck with him
We’d just have to accept that those guys aren’t gonna put the puck in the net much
Which isn’t ideal,
but at least they’re pretty good at getting the puck out of the zone

The coach who thought it was a good idea to give them a prominent role got fired. I assume most or all of his player usage was a terrible idea

That’s a flawed argument
We don’t want Eichel or Mitts taking those minutes
They need to be focused on scoring

If we had a legit defensive 3C,
Then we could let Larsson &/or Girgs go
But we don’t have that guy yet
And no, E Rod isn’t that guy either
They’re the best players we have for that role currently

Also... go Bills!

Eichel will be matching against top lines more. That's what the best centers do. Larry, Girgs and Okposo will still be used more in the defensive zone, because it's a waste of time to start them anywhere else, but they're not going to play 14 minutes a night. That's my prediction. Housley sucked and his ideas were bad.

And because they are actually really good defensively, and that’s not really debatable

They had similar on ice results as the Selke winner this year, in terms of defensive impacts

Yeah, I agree they are defensively responsible and I agree there is a role for them. A different role. A non-housley role. We need to score more goals, which means playing them less. And if Botterill's d moves were good, that should help the forwards everyone says are not defensively responsible. And if Krueger understands that it's a speed and scoring game now, he needs to approach the game differently than Housley

But enough about the twins.

Who you got today?

Also, it’s absolutely bonkers Sean Couturier wasn’t a Selke finalist.

He was a top 5 center this past year

I have a bad feeling. Mainly because I am conditioned to.

I love Allen but he seems like a slow starter, and the defense took 3 games to get going last year

Everyone is saying the jets secondary is not good and they need to throw the ball deep.

Which means the first series for the Bills will be

Beasley not so impressive yet.
He needs to step it up quickly.
