Yeah but was it a unanimous vote or was it publicly said that "we're not going to sign our RFA's until the Leafs figure out what to do with Marner?" That's real sound management tactics. - NewfieStud
It might have been Jesus. I'm not sure.
Perhaps Lou Lamariello. I confuse the two. Either way, it's done. |

Drouin, Hillis and a 2nd for Laine |

If Laine and Connor don't want to sign by the start of the season then Chevy should let them sit out the entire season before trading them for pennies on the dollar like the Jets did with Trouba. Unless it's a crazy offer for either one of those players the Jets won't be trading the anytime soon. |

Laine shouldn't accept anything less then 8years
30 goals with base
40 goals with good bonus
50 goals with huge bonus

Hey you remember those mushrooms that used to grow in the back yard when you were a kid? The ones your mom told you never to eat... You ate some, didn't you?

This might not be a bad idea. If Laine truly believe in himself, he should actually want a short term deal and score like a monster, then take the Jets to the bank for a major deal! |

Having seen three years of Matthews and Laine now, has your opinion changed on whom the Leafs should have drafted first overall in 2016? |

Other than the fact that the CBA prohibits bonuses for 2nd contracts, this is a really good idea. |

Matthews has more goals in fewer games than a guy who's only upside is that he scores goals. I'll take Matthews all day every day. |

After last year with nylander and Dubas any gm would be wise to not out all their hopes on Marner getting done to set the price for their guy. Just try to get the fair deal and sign.
If it was me I would of pulled a Aho long ago as long as i deemed it to be fair for both sides and not just what I wanted. |

Laine is a great player and has room to improve even more, but I doubt there's really anyone out there who thinks Matthews wasn't the better pick.
I think the only way that Laine could prove the better pick is if Matthews somehow runs into serious injury issues to the point where he has to bow out of the NHL. Beyond that kind of catastrophe, it's Matthews > Laine fo sho. |

It's just media spewing BS all summer lol. No one is waiting for Marner to sign but the Leafs and their fans. Oh and TSN, Sportsnet and TMZ. |

This might sound a bit out there but I believe Connor is the more respected asset by other GM's. If picking between the two is what it comes down to, I'm keeping Connor. The Jets may be a far different team this season. Man the window shuts quickly in a cap world |

The deal proposed wasn't outlandish as suggested. Bordered on reasonable actually. Drouin on a 5.5M deal outpointed Laine and wasn't a -24. A decent prospect plus a valuable 2nd round pick. If Laine does get dealt, people are going to be surprised at the low return. The guy can rifle the puck but does little else. We see Marner blocking shots and killing penalties. Can you envision Laine doing that?? And he wants 10M? He's not getting that type of jack from any team. |

I'm hoping the Keller deal has no impact on TK. Provy is going to hold out as is till the other D men set the market and I dont know enough about Fletcher and company. |

Yes it was. I completely agree that he's overvalued, but no one is getting Laine for a problem child reclamation project and and a package of throw-ins that doesn't even include an 'A' level prospect or a first round pick. That's just asinine. |
